Fork Union Military Academy has officially broken ground on the highly anticipated renovation of its outdoor track facility, the Gus Lacy Track. This exciting project will upgrade the existing track to a modern, eight-lane facility, allowing the Academy to host state and championship-level meets and expand the range of track and field events offered on campus.
The renovation marks a significant milestone in Fork Union’s continued investment in athletic excellence. The new eight-lane design will support both training and competition, positioning the Academy as a premier venue for interscholastic track meets in the region.
“Hallelujah! I just want to thank our alumni, friends, and especially our Advancement Office,” said Winston Brown, Fork Union Military Academy’s head track and field coach. “This is a great, great thing happening for our school. I want to thank CAPT Black for making it a priority that he made. A new track has been needed for a long time. I’ll see everybody at the Gus Lacy Track Classic in 2026!”
Construction is being led by Precision Athletics, a trusted industry leader in athletic facility development. The project is on track for completion before the start of the upcoming track and field season.
“We’re thrilled to begin this exciting chapter for our athletic program,” said CAPT Mark Black, President of Fork Union Military Academy. “This new track will serve our cadets for years to come and strengthen our ability to host meets and showcase our talented athletes.”
Fork Union Military Academy has a storied tradition in track and field, earning multiple state and conference titles and developing standout athletes recognized as individual champions, All-State, and All-Prep honorees. The renovation of the Gus Lacy Track represents the Academy’s ongoing commitment to developing high-performing student-athletes and building facilities that match their excellence.
