

Fork Union Military Academy Battalion Commander Nicholas Coleman, a senior from Woodbridge, Virginia, has been selected to receive one of only two 2025 Preparatory Leadership Awards presented annually by the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS). The award includes a $1,000 scholarship and recognizes exceptional leadership, character, and service among cadets from AMCSUS member institutions nationwide.
A fifth-year cadet at Fork Union Military Academy, Coleman currently serves as Battalion Commander, the highest-ranking cadet leadership position at the Academy. In this role, he is responsible for setting the standard for discipline, accountability, and leadership across the Corps of Cadets while serving as a mentor and role model to younger cadets.
The AMCSUS Preparatory Leadership Award honors cadets who exemplify the highest ideals of military education, including integrity, academic excellence, and commitment to service. Coleman’s selection places him among a small group of cadets recognized at the national level for their sustained leadership and dedication.
Coleman will formally receive the award during the AMCSUS Awards Banquet on Monday, February 23, in Alexandria.
In addition to this national honor, Coleman will represent Fork Union Military Academy at the National Civics and Debate Championship in Orlando, further highlighting his academic excellence and commitment to civic engagement.
Throughout his time at Fork Union Military Academy, Coleman has steadily advanced through the cadet ranks, earning the respect of peers, faculty, and staff through his work ethic, maturity, and unwavering dedication to the Academy’s mission of developing young men of character, faith, and leadership.
