Senior Nicholas Coleman Highlights Honors with $1,000 Scholarship

Fork Union Military Academy continues its tradition of excellence on the national stage as cadets were recognized in multiple categories during this year’s Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) annual awards program. The honors, which celebrate achievement among students from middle school through the college level, highlighted the Academy’s strength in academics, leadership, and military training.

The awards were announced during Monday evening’s banquet at the AMCSUS Annual Conference, where military school leaders and administrators from across the country gathered to celebrate excellence in military education.

Fork Union’s middle school cadets demonstrated both discipline and teamwork, earning second place in the Middle School Physical Training competition and third place in the Middle School Drill Competition. These placements reflect the dedication of younger cadets who are building a strong foundation in physical readiness, precision, and esprit de corps early in their Academy experience.

Academic excellence was also on display as postgraduate Nicholas Whitehead captured first place in the College-Level Writing Award category. Competing against students from military schools and colleges across the country, Whitehead’s achievement underscores the Academy’s commitment to developing articulate thinkers and effective communicators.

Highlighting the Academy’s awards was one of AMCSUS’s most distinguished honors, the prestigious Leadership Award, presented to senior Nicholas Coleman. A Trustee Scholarship recipient from Woodbridge, Virginia, Coleman has been enrolled at Fork Union since the eighth grade, demonstrating sustained commitment to the Academy’s values and mission throughout his cadet career. The son of Jennifer and Brian Coleman, he has distinguished himself as a leader among his peers, earning the respect of both cadets and faculty through his character, discipline, and service. The award was accompanied by a $1,000 scholarship, further recognizing his impact and promise as a leader beyond Fork Union.

From the middle school ranks to postgraduate achievement, Fork Union cadets continue to demonstrate the values of discipline, perseverance, and leadership that define the Academy’s mission.

As the AMCSUS awards celebrate excellence across military education, Fork Union’s strong showing this year serves as a testament to the hard work of its cadets and the faculty and staff who guide them each day.
