On Monday, October 13, the Fork Union Military Academy Band proudly represented the Academy and the Commonwealth of Virginia at the United States Navy and Marine 250th Birthday Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This national celebration commemorated 250 years of naval service and heritage, featuring performances and appearances by military bands, service academies, and veteran organizations from across the nation. Fork Union was honored to stand among them, showcasing the discipline, musical excellence, and tradition that define the Academy.

As the Band stepped off down Market Street to the cheers of thousands, cadets performed Fork Union’s signature selections: “FUMA Men Are We” and the “Patriotic Parade Sequence.” Their precision and spirit reflected the Academy’s proud history of service and leadership.

Though the official Navy commemoration ceremony scheduled later in the day was canceled due to inclement weather, the cadets made the most of their time in historic Philadelphia. They visited Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and other landmarks, gaining a deeper appreciation for the nation’s founding and the ideals they strive to uphold.

Music Director ETN1(SS) John Warren, USN (Ret.) expressed pride in his cadets’ performance and conduct throughout the trip.

“I could not be prouder of the hard work and discipline these cadets demonstrated,” he said. “Whether on the parade route or representing Fork Union around Philadelphia, they carried themselves with professionalism and pride befitting the Academy’s long tradition of excellence.”

Congratulations, gentlemen!
