Fork Union Military Academy buzzed with pride and camaraderie this past weekend as alumni from across the decades returned to campus for our annual Alumni Weekend celebration.
From the warm welcome at Friday’s BBQ on Pruitt Lake to the spirited performances by the Corps of Cadets, every moment was filled with tradition, reconnection, and celebration.
Saturday offered a full slate of events, including the ever-popular Golf and Cornhole Tournaments, the Retired Faculty Luncheon that reunited alumni with beloved former mentors, and an evening of reflection and recognition at the Alumni Dinner.
One of the weekend’s most touching moments was the dedication of a new trophy case in Beatty Library honoring longtime educator and Chess Club advisor Chris Nothnagle. The case will showcase his contributions and club memorabilia for years to come.
The Alumni Dinner was highlighted by the presentation of the Distinguished Alumnus Award to Dr. Josa Mera, Class of 1975. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Mera was the first international cadet in Academy history to serve as Battalion Commander. His enduring service to Fork Union as a member of both the Alumni Association Board of Directors and Board of Trustees exemplifies leadership and legacy.
On Sunday, despite a rainy forecast, alumni veterans were honored in a special chapel ceremony in Wicker Chapel, and class photos helped preserve memories made. The sun returned just in time for the Alumni Parade on Stadium Field, culminated with the proud march of the Reunion Class of 1975.
“What makes Alumni Weekend so meaningful is seeing how strong the bond remains between our cadets and their Academy no matter how many years have passed,” said Ann Taylor, Director of Advancement. “It’s not just a weekend of events; it’s a celebration of shared history, lifelong friendships, and the values that unite our community.”
Mark your calendars for next year’s Alumni Weekend is scheduled for May 1–3, 2026. We can’t wait to welcome you home again!
