Over the past two weeks, Fork Union Military Academy’s Band and Retan Rifles have proudly represented the Academy at two major events, earning praise and admiration for their discipline, professionalism, and performance excellence.

On Saturday, May 3, the Fork Union Band and Retan Rifles performed in the Grand Feature Parade at the 2025 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, where they served as unit #304. The crowd's response was overwhelming, with cheers and applause echoing down the parade route. Festival coordinators remarked on the cadets’ sharp appearance, pride, and discipline, hallmarks of Fork Union’s tradition.

Behind the scenes, cadet escorts assisted throughout the week and were widely praised for their courtesy and professionalism. Their exemplary conduct added to the Academy’s outstanding presence at the event.

Held in Estes Dining Hall on Thursday, May 8, this year’s Fine Arts Festival was a vibrant celebration of cadet talent in music and visual art. The event featured a range of performances, from intimate solos and small ensembles to larger concert works, showcasing the hard work and growth of our student musicians.

Congratulations to the featured soloists:

  • Tyler Hill, violin
  • Minh Ta, piano
  • Chrysander Rahardjo, guitar and vocals

Each delivered moving performances that captivated the audience. In addition to the musical acts, cadet-created artwork was on display, highlighting the creativity and expression nurtured throughout the academic year.

During the evening, the Academy proudly announced its 2025–2026 student leadership for the Band:

  • Drum Major: Francisco Duarte
  • Assistant Drum Majors: Riley Belden and Tyson Morris
  • Woodwind Section Captain: Tyler Hill
  • Brass Section Captain: Christian Mukhisa
  • Percussion Section Captain: Chrysander Rahardjo

These cadets have consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership, musicianship, and character, and we look forward to their continued contributions in the year ahead.

The next major event for the Fork Union Military Academy Band and Retan Rifles is just around the corner. On Monday, May 26, they will march in the 2025 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. This nationally televised event will be available to watch live via a streaming link: 2025 National Memorial Day Parade - Music Celebrations

We extend our deepest thanks to the faculty, staff, families, and supporters who make these experiences possible. Your encouragement affirms the vital role of music and the arts in shaping the lives of our cadets.
