Colonel David Coggins, 11^th President of Fork Union Military Academy, hosted his final Presidential Coin Toss at the Estes Aquatic Center to kick off the 125^th Anniversary Celebration that will be happening the next four days. 

“I saw cadets having fun and good competition was had by all,” said Coggins. “They are proud of our Academy and earning a coin is something to be treasured, especially on our 125^th Anniversary Weekend. I got the idea from a coin toss at a community pool on July 4, 1976, where we dove for quarters, half dollars and a dollar coin. We had to swim around searching and outdoing our friends to win. I still have those coins to this day and cherish the memories.”

All four companies, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta, participated in the coin toss as Colonel Coggins and the Commandant’s Department threw coins in the pool for cadets to find, including Fork Union Military Academy Coins and a few special edition coins. 

The cadets who found coins can trade them in for a “buy one, get one free” at the Social Center.

“The coin toss was a great way to break-up the week,” said senior Harry Momolu. “It is always fun to interact with our President and enjoy the brotherhood we have here at the Academy.”

The 125^th Anniversary Weekend starts with a Pep Rally Thursday night at 6:15 p.m. Below is the schedule for the weekend:

5:00 PM: BBQ Cookout with live music from Bennett Wales, class of 2009
7:00 PM: Fireworks Display

12:30 PM: Military Spectacle
1:30 PM: Snead Hall and Memorial Hall Cornerstone Ceremony

Sunday, October 15th

11:00 AM: Ribbon cutting at Press Box and Sabre Square
11:30 AM: Group photos at stadium
12:00 PM: Lunch
1:30 PM: Parade and Change of Command Ceremony

After the parade there will be 125th Photo opportunity for all in attendance followed by a reception on Sabre Square.
