Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.

The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:

Cadet Captain Michael Luce is a senior and fourth-year cadet in Bravo Company.  He is a boarding student from Woodford, Virginia.  Cadet Luce recently attended the University of North Georgia’s Leadership Challenge where he repelled a 60ft cliff and ran a grenade assault course during the Ranger School’s Mountain Phase. The instructors called him, “highspeed” and “super hooah” for always being motivated and leading the pack.  Bravo Zulu, Cadet Luce!

Cadet Private First Class Jackson Sereno is an eighth grader and first-year cadet in Charlie Company. He is a boarding student from Haymarket, Virginia. In the past weeks, Cadet Sereno has taken the initiative to lead a group of cadets to ensure that the company’s tables and chairs are cleaned and stacked properly every night after the evening meal. He also assists other cadets with their company areas. He understands teamwork, initiative, and how to be a leader. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Sereno!

Cadet Master Sergeant Jacob Clodfelter is a sophomore and second-year cadet in Headquarters and Service Company.  He is a boarding student from Mickleton, New Jersey. This past weekend, Cadet Clodfelter spent his free time decorating the social center and ensuring everything looked outstanding for the Military Ball. He led a team of six cadets in the arch of sabers for the opening of the ball. Afterwards, he took down and stored the decorations so the Social Center could be utilized as soon as possible. His dedication to excellence ensured the tradition of Military Ball was an unforgettable experience for all who attended. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Clodfelter!

Mrs. Kayla Jones, Registrar, Art/Drama Teacher, and Head of the Fine Arts Department personally designed, planned, and supervised the 2022 Military Ball. She flawlessly led the Quadrille Club in coordinating the details and implementation. Kayla’s detailed planning ensured our cadets were able to enjoy a spectacular event after a two-year hiatus. Bravo Zulu, Mrs. Jones!

Mr. John Hurley, Deputy Director of Maintenance, seamlessly led the Maintenance team this week with several team members away. He ensured the grounds were maintained with limited resources. John’s initiative and dedication are evident in his many creative and budget-conscious ideas around campus. Bravo Zulu, Mr. Hurley!

Go FUMA!
