Check-In Day is an important milestone in your cadet’s journey, and we’re here to help make it as smooth and positive as possible. On this page, you’ll find everything you need to know to prepare, including what to bring, what to wear, arrival times, and key reminders for a successful start.
At Fork Union Military Academy, we have two check-in dates for the 2025-2026 academic year. Specific groups will check-in and remain on campus for the academic year on two dates in August. The dates are listed below:

The FinalSite Parent Portal is a very important tool here at Fork Union Military Academy. This portal allows you to track your status on the progression of your cadet's enrollment. This is the same portal you used to apply to the Academy. Please make sure your FinalSite Parent Portal Checklist is complete prior to your cadet's arrival on Check-In Day.

Regulation Haircut
Fork Union Military Academy would like to request your son to arrive on campus clean shaven and with a proper haircut. The regulation haircut for Fork Union Military Academy is:
Hair will be neat and closely trimmed. Hair will be kept 1 inch or less on top. The sides will be tapered/faded (evenly graduated) all the way around the head. No block lines and no temple tapers are allowed. Hard parts are not authorized. Sideburns will not extend below the top of the orifice of the ear. Sideburns will not be styled to taper, flare or come to a point. The length of an individual hair of the sideburn will not exceed 1/8 inch when fully extended.
If your son is unable to receive a haircut prior to check-in, we can arrange for him to see our barber on campus.
What to Bring
Please refer to this list for the basic essentials all cadets should bring with them on check-in day. Keep in mind, your cadet may need to bring athletic equipment/supplies, please read the Fall Athletic Offerings section below as well.

Academic Calendar
You can find the link to our Academic Calendar for the 2025-2026 year here. Please refer to our calendar as you are planning for all travel purposes.
Once your cadet arrives on check-in day, they must be prepared to stay on campus for the remainder of the contracted year. Day Students playing football must be prepared to spend the night from Monday, August 11-Tuesday, August 19.
The first day of class is Thursday, August 21. Saturday, August 23 is a class day and all cadets, including Day Students, are required to attend.
Please note that once your cadet arrives on campus, cell phones are not allowed, and communication will be limited for several weeks.
