Fork Union Military Academy proudly hosted the 2026 Military School Band & Choir Festival, welcoming cadets and directors from military schools and colleges across the nation for a memorable three-day celebration of music, leadership, and camaraderie. Culminating on Sunday, February 22, the festival provided students with the opportunity to collaborate, perform, and build lasting connections through their shared passion for the fine arts.
For Fork Union’s musicians, the weekend proved historic and highly successful, as cadets represented the Academy with discipline, professionalism, and exceptional musical ability across multiple events and competitions.

One of the festival’s most visible and demanding events was the Drum Major Competition, which evaluates command presence, conducting clarity, musical interpretation, precision, and leadership under pressure.
Fork Union was represented by Everett Amos, Riley Belden, and Tyran Johnson, each stepping forward individually before clinicians and peers from participating institutions. Their confident commands, sharp salutes, and composed demeanor reflected the preparation and bearing expected of Fork Union cadet leaders, demonstrating that the competition measures character as much as musical skill.

Fork Union musicians also distinguished themselves through competitive auditions, earning multiple First Chair recognitions:
Achieving First Chair signifies the highest ranking within an ensemble section and reflects outstanding preparation, consistency, and confidence. Securing four First Chair placements across multiple sections highlighted the strength and depth of the Academy’s instrumental program.

In addition to individual honors, Fork Union Military Academy received the Ronald L. Horton Award for Highest Average Audition Scores Overall, a prestigious program-wide recognition. The award underscored collective excellence, affirming that strong performances were evident across every section of the ensemble.

The festival also marked a meaningful milestone for the Academy’s vocal program as George Owino represented Fork Union as a tenor in the festival choir, becoming the Academy’s first choir participant since before 2020. His participation signals renewed growth within the choral program and continued expansion of Fine Arts opportunities on campus.

Supporting the performances was a dedicated Ensemble Support Team of cadets who managed logistics, equipment coordination, music distribution, and stage transitions throughout the weekend. Their efforts ensured seamless execution across events and allowed performers to remain focused.
The Academy extends appreciation to Robert Callahan, Prince Kajwengye, Collin Kimutai, Rylan Marshall, Xander Middleton, Hunter Morris, Kaden Stremlau, Emmanuel Walters, and Elijah Watson for their professionalism and teamwork behind the scenes.

Fork Union was proudly represented by a talented group of participating musicians across the band and choir, each contributing to the Academy’s strong showing and collaborative spirit throughout the festival.
Reflecting on the experience, Music Director John Warren praised the cadets not only for their musical achievements but also for their professionalism and character.
“Multiple directors commented on their professionalism, discipline, and bearing,” Warren shared. “They noticed how our cadets carried themselves, how they interacted with others, and how they supported one another. This weekend was about music, but it was also about character, and our cadets proved they possess both.”
The festival served as more than a performance opportunity; it was a reflection of Fork Union Military Academy’s commitment to discipline, preparation, and high standards. Cadets competed with confidence, supported one another, and represented the Academy with pride.
What began as a weekend of music concluded as a powerful affirmation of the Academy’s Fine Arts program and the character of its cadets, which is a reminder that when standards are embraced, excellence follows.
For his tireless preparation of the festival and the passion he brings to the Fork Union Band each day, ETN1(SS) Warren was proudly recognized as the Academy’s Teacher of the Term for Term 3.
