Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.

The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:

Cadet Private David Owen is a junior and first-year cadet in Alpha Company. He is a boarding student from Arlington, VA. This past week, Cadet Owen has given his all to each exercise, drill, and assignment. He has shown great respect and kindness toward his fellow cadets. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Owen!

Cadet First Sergeant Lance Gowans is a senior and second-year cadet in Bravo Company. He is a day student from Fluvanna, VA. Cadet Gowans was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant after CLT training. He has shown great leadership, and insists on arriving early, staying late, and even coming in on weekends to assist leadership and Duty Officers. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Gowans!

Cadet Sergeant First Class Iker Serrano is a freshman and second-year cadet in Charlie Company. He is a boarding student from Mexico City, MX. Cadet Serrano has done a great job in drill, room inspections, and setting a great example for fellow cadets. His actions have contributed to the overall success of his platoon. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Serrano!

Cadet Second Lieutenant Ousmane Dieng is a senior and sixth-year cadet in HSC. He is a boarding student from Germantown, MD. Cadet Dieng consistently seeks more responsibility and takes initiative to assist fellow leaders with their assigned duties. He always has a positive attitude and is an acting scribe with detailed notetaking during leadership meetings. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Dieng!

Ms. Liz Zito, IT Tech, distributed student laptops and communicated PowerSchool and Orah information to parents. She is dedicated to helping our faculty and staff with any tech issues that arise. Bravo Zulu, Ms. Zito!

A special Bravo Zulu goes out to CPT Chip Chace, a member of the Social Studies Department, assistant football coach, and head Lacrosse coach. CPT Chace and wife, Brittany welcomed their first child this week. Deane Edmond Chace was born September 13, 2022, at 2:57 PM, weighing 6 lbs., 3 oz. The FUMA family extends well wishes and congratulations to CPT Chace, Brittany, and baby Deane as they begin this new journey in life.
