Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.

The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:

Col. David L. Coggins, USMC, (Ret.), President, has led FUMA with dedication, vision, and leadership for five years. He has guided the school in its mission to educate, develop, and inspire young men in a college preparatory, military-style environment that encourages mental, physical, and spiritual growth. He led the Academy through an unprecedented global pandemic and attained articulation agreements with the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), the Citadel, and Norwich University. On Sunday, Col. Coggins will retire, leaving the Academy poised to serve future generations of young men. We deeply appreciate his dedicated service and wish him and his wife Kelli the very best in retirement.

Cadet Benjamin Burtram is a senior and second-year cadet on the Battalion Staff. He is a boarding student from Mebane, NC. Cadet Matthias Moyer is a sophomore and second-year cadet in Bravo Company. He is a boarding student from Richmond, VA. Cadet Ellis Roberts is a sophomore and fourth-year cadet in Charlie Company. He is a boarding student from Highland, MD. Cadet Nicholas Coleman is a sophomore and third-year cadet in Charlie Company. He is a boarding cadet from Woodbridge, VA.

These cadets volunteered their time and expertise to serve as tour guides for the Academy’s Admissions Open House on October 9th. By walking these prospective students around campus and answering their questions, these young men helped to usher in the next generation of FUMA men and worked to ensure all parties had a great day. Bravo Zulu, Cadets Burtram, Moyer, Roberts, and Coleman!

Go FUMA!

Colonel David L. Coggins, USMC (Ret.)
President
Fork Union Military Academy
