Fork Union Military Academy is proud to spotlight alumnus Waverly Washington, Class of 2008, whose path of service has taken him from campus leadership and military command to the national stage.

Washington recently separated from military service and is now seeking public office as a candidate for Congress in Virginia’s 7th District. Throughout his career, he has emphasized leadership, accountability, and a commitment to putting service before self, which are values he credits to the discipline and foundation he began developing as a cadet at Fork Union Military Academy.

Washington describes his motivation for running as rooted in his belief in the American Dream and his desire to represent working families and community priorities. He has shared that his military experience shaped his approach to leadership, responsibility, and national service.

In addition to his current pursuit of public office, the Academy is honored to announce that Waverly Washington will serve as Fork Union Military Academy’s 2026 Graduation Speaker.

Washington’s return to campus will mark a meaningful full-circle moment, welcoming graduating cadets as a fellow alumnus who once walked the same barracks halls and now continues a lifelong commitment to service and leadership.

The Fork Union community looks forward to welcoming Waverly Washington back to campus and celebrating his continued dedication to country, community, and the next generation of leaders. Commencement is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. on Stadium Field.
