Fifty cadets received their high school diplomas in the 126th Commencement Ceremony at Fork Union Military Academy Friday, June 7. It was a beautiful morning for an outdoor event at the Stadium Field, with the sun shining as brightly as the smiles on the faces of the watching families, friends, and alumni.
Dr. Rob Pochek delivered the 2024 Commencement Address. Dr. Pochek, the Pastor of First Baptist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia, has been a member of the Academy's Board of Trustees since June 2021.
Tyler Manglicmot, the William E. Hatcher Valedictorian, gave an amazing speech, reminiscing on certain memories and thanking his family, staff, and faculty who have been instrumental in his success at Fork Union. Most importantly, he thanked his fellow classmates, the Class of 2024.
Manglicmot has been a cadet at Fork Union Military Academy for six years, arriving in the seventh grade and finishing his high school career with the highest academic class rank as valedictorian, with a GPA of 4.7. He is the son of Ferzen and Sarah Manglicmot of Palmyra, Virginia, and will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall.
Manglicmot was also one of the 12 Honor Graduates in the Class of 2024. To earn the distinction of Honor Graduate, a cadet must have completed two years of study at the Academy between grades 9 to 12, completed his senior year with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and met specific high standards in conduct.

Christopher Acosta-Serrano is the son of Miguel Serrano and Christine Serrano of Woodbridge, Virginia. He has attended the Academy since the 10th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 3.509. Acosta-Serrano is considering enlistment in the United States Armed Forces.
Jaxon Brooks-Powell is the son of Laurie Brooks-Powell and Gregg Powell of Palmyra, Virginia. He has attended the Academy since the 7th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 3.967. Brooks-Powell will be attending Randolph-Macon College in the fall.
Benjamin Burtram is the son of Brian and Julie Burtram of Mebane, North Carolina. He has attended the Academy since the 11th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 4.462. Burtram will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall, where he will be a member of the Corps of Cadets.
Jacob Clodfelter is the son of Marc and Grace Clodfelter of Mickleton, New Jersey. He has attended the Academy since the 9th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 4.229. Clodfelter will be attending the University of North Georgia in the fall, where he will be a member of the Corps of Cadets.
George Gurney is the son of Sara and Kyle Gurney of Sandston, Virginia. He has attended the Academy since the 8th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 4.202. Gurney will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall.
Laith Haddad is the son of Taruik and Melissa Haddad of Midlothian, Virginia. He has attended the Academy since the 9th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 4.441. Haddad will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall.
Jared Mayuga is the son of John and Catherine Mayuga of Vienna, Virginia. He has attended the Academy since the 11th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 3.824. Mayuga will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall, where he will be a member of the Corps of Cadets.
Everett Mitchell is the son of Allison and Case Mitchell of Barboursville, Virginia. He has attended the Academy since the 9th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 4.136. Mitchell will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall, where he will be a member of the Corps of Cadets.
Jaydn Pieron is the son of Tyler and Claire Pieron of Palmyra, Virginia. He has attended the Academy since the 10th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 4.098. Pieron will be attending James Madison University in the fall.
Dylan Rwagasana is the son of Willy Rwagasana and Chantal Nduwayo of Kigali, Rwanda. He has attended the Academy since the 11th grade and has a cumulative GPA of 3.612. Rwagasana will be attending Drexel University in the fall.
Ethan Schroyer
Ethan Schroyer is the son of Sophie Schroyer and Jason Schroyer of North East, Maryland. He has attended the Academy since the 9th grade and served as this year’s Battalion Commander. He has a cumulative GPA of 4.655 and will be attending Yale University in the fall.
All Fork Union Military Academy graduating seniors will have the opportunity to continue their education in college next fall. The Class of 2024 achieved the Academy’s annual goal of 100-percent college acceptance, receiving $5.7 million in merit and athletic scholarships.
