Fork Union Military Academy is proud to congratulate MAJ David Mitchell on being named Teacher of the Term for Term 2 of the 2024-2025 academic year.

At the end of each grading term, cadets nominate teachers who have made a significant impact, and these nominations are reviewed by the Teacher of the Term/Year Committee, composed of non-academic staff members. After careful evaluation, the Committee selects the recipient of this distinguished honor.

MAJ Mitchell joined the Academy in August 2017 as a teacher and coach. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he coaches swimming and sponsors the Scuba Diving Club. During Term 2, MAJ Mitchell taught Eighth Grade History & Civics, leaving a lasting impression on his students.

Cadet nominations highlighted MAJ Mitchell's positive influence and exceptional teaching:

  • "I nominate Major Mitchell because I feel that he teaches his subject very well and knows a lot about it. He is also funny, has a great relationship with everyone, and is always in a good mood, willing to talk or help anyone who needs it."
  • "He has been a very good teacher. He has been very encouraging when I get down. Out of all the teachers, he has been the funniest and coolest teacher I have ever met."
  • "He is an overall nice guy and a good teacher. He actually keeps a quiet class. During the day, he lets us have a little free time, and the homework isn’t too hard, but I still learned a lot in his class."

Congratulations to MAJ Mitchell on this well-deserved honor and for his outstanding dedication to our cadets' success!
