Fork Union Military Academy is pleased to announce the hiring of David Kaplan, an experienced basketball coach at the college level, to serve as the Head Coach of the Prep Basketball program. Kaplan comes to Fork Union from Wofford College where he served as Director of Men's Basketball Operations helping the team advance to the Southern Conference Semifinals. Notably, Wofford was the only team in the nation to win at powerhouse Texas A & M this past season. Kaplan was instrumental in mentoring Freshman of the Year Jackson Paveletzke and All-Conference First Team member BJ Mack.

Prior to joining Wofford College, Kaplan served as an assistant under head coach Matt Ridge at Davidson-Davie Community College in North Carolina, helping the Storm finish the 2020-2021 season ranked second in the nation with a record of 23-3, including a perfect 11-0 record at home. Davidson-Davie was the top seed for the D2 NJCAA National Tournament.

His college coaching career also includes experience at Catholic University in Washington, DC, and Centenary College of Shreveport, Louisiana. Kaplan began his coaching experience at Gar-Field Senior High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, as an assistant under head coach Andy Gray, helping the Indians advance to the state's Elite Eight with a record of 27-3. The following year, Gar-Field finished 22-5 and won the Virginia AAA Cardinal District Championship. Kaplan then joined South County High School in Lorton, Virginia, as an assistant coach and varsity recruiting coordinator, where he helped the Stallions in 2015 to win their first conference championship in school history.

Kaplan is a native of Fairfax, Virginia, and a graduate of High Point University where he received his degree in recreation management with a minor in athletic coaching.

"I could not be more excited about joining the FUMA community and I'm excited to meet our returning players," said Coach Kaplan. "The Academy's prestige, facilities, and rich tradition are just a few of the reasons why I knew this was the right opportunity and believe that we will soon be back at the top of the Virginia Prep League."

In addition to his duties as Head Prep Basketball Coach at Fork Union, Kaplan will serve as an instructor and work with student activities, summer camps, and facility rentals.
