Fork Union Military Academy honored its undergraduates during the annual Undergraduate Awards Ceremony held Wednesday evening in Wicker Chapel.

More than 35 awards were presented, including scholarships, special recognitions, and the announcement of Dean’s List and President’s List honorees. The evening celebrated the academic achievement, leadership, and character of our cadets.

Jones Physics Award:
David Illegar

Awarded to the cadet who has the highest academic average in physics.

E.J. Snead Algebra Award:
Isaac Weathersbee

Awarded to the cadet with the highest academic average in Algebra I & Algebra II.

A.J. Cox Geometry Award:
Lanty Coghlan

Awarded to a 9th or 10th grade cadet with the highest average in Geometry. 

Justin Edell Math Award:
Kadin Stremlau 

Awarded to a rising senior with the best overall math scores while attending the Academy.

Beatty Chemistry Award:
Tytus Goode

Awarded to the undergraduate who has the highest academic average in Chemistry. 

MacDougall Environmental Science Award:
Preston Inman

Awarded to the freshman who has the highest academic average in Environmental Science.  

Arritt Biology Award:
Fernando De Elio Echazarra

Awarded to the 9th or 10th grade cadet with the highest academic average in Biology. 

H.R. Kelly Foreign Language Award – Spanish:
Mikhael Kleiman-Deicas

Awarded to the cadet who has the highest academic average in Spanish.  

H.R. Kelly Foreign Language Award – German:
Joseph Bishop

Awarded to the cadet who has the highest academic average in German.  

Edgerton Music Award:
Tyran Johnson

Awarded to the cadet who shows ability to guide and teach their fellow bandsmen.  

LaZizza Most Efficient Band Member:
Tyson Morris

This scholarship is given to the cadet who has given countless hours to improving themselves and those around them.  

E.H. Lacy Seniority in Attendance Award:
Riley Belden

Awarded to the rising senior who has been in the most continued attendance at the Academy.  

K.T. Whitescarver Marine Award:
Mikhael Kleiman-Deicas

Awarded to a cadet who embodies the tributes of COL Whitescarver.  

Barker Retan Rifles Award:
Wesley Braman

Awarded to the most outstanding freshman in Retan Rifles.  

Excellence in Spiritual Formation Award:
Tytus Goode

Awarded to the cadet who excels as being a cadet chaplain.  

COL Fred Hoffman Quartermaster Award:
James Elliott

Awarded to the cadet who exemplifies the excellence in working with the Quartermaster.  

Craig Moon Scholarship:
Lanty Coghlan

Awarded to cadets who show leadership, integrity, and humility. This scholarship is $1,000 towards next year's tuition.

Class of 1955 Scholarship:
William Clark

Awarded to a cadet who demonstrate good standing among the Corps of Cadets. This scholarship is $1,000 towards next year's tuition.

Whitman B. Wiatt Scholarship:
Tyson Morris

Awarded to a young man who demonstrates integrity, leadership, and kindness among the Corps of Cadets. This scholarship is $1,000 towards next year's tuition.

Hamby Award:
Tytus Goode

Awarded to a young man who has the greatest improvement in attitude and or self-esteem since arriving to the Academy.

Paul Frederick Cobb Scholarship:
Raheem Lambert

Awarded to cadets who show leadership, integrity, and humility. This scholarship is $1,000 towards next year's tuition.

Best Tour Guide:
Nehemiah Allen

In its first year, the Admissions Department recognized its Best Tour Guide of the Year.

College of William & Mary Leadership Award:
Samual Maxin

Awarded from the College to a cadet who embodies all the qualities of good leadership. This award was paired with the book "A Passion of Leadership" by Robert M. Gates.

The Sojourner's - Americanism Award:
Isaac Weathersbee

is given to the student that best demonstrates the ideas of Americanism by deed or conduct or both, and that the recipient demonstrates a potential for outstanding leadership.

AMCSUS Purple Heart Award:
George Monroe

Award given by the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) in partnership with the Purple Heart Foundation. It provides $500 scholarships to current cadets who are related to Purple Heart recipients or veterans

The Military Order of the World Wars Award:
Noah Wasilewski

Awarded for excellence in scholarship, military bearing, and leadership at the Academy.

The Ancient Accepted Order of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry:
Raheem Lambert

Awarded for exceptional service to Freemasonry, the country, and humanity.

The Best Drilled Company:
Bravo Company

Staff Member of the Year:
Gary Leydig

COL Gary Leydig has been named the next Director of Enrollment Management.

Teacher of the Year:
Ms. Rebecca Monroe

A two-time teacher of the term recipient in her first year at the Academy.

Coach of the Year:
Jon Larson

Coach Larson led his squad to a fourth-place finish in the Prep League and a top-20 showing in the state in his ninth season at the helm.

Cadet Leader of the Year:
