Board of Trustee member Dr. Rob Pochek visited campus Monday to speak to the Corps of Cadets at Chapel. Dr. Pochek is the Pastor of First Baptist Church in Charlottesville and has been a member of the Academy's Board of Trustees since June of 2021.
Pastor Rob shared with cadets a sermon from 1 Corinthians 9:24-37 -- The Need for Self-Discipline.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
The Need for Self-Discipline
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
New International Version
Pastor Rob preached about joining the race of God. We should run the race to display the gospel and do it in a way to win. As a Christian, we do not give half-hearted effort, and we should be living our life in that way. Are you striving for the finish line in everything you do? We should all be competing for a prize that will last an eternity.
Following Pastor Rob's sermon, c/CPT Jackson Pretus presented a Presidential Coin on behalf of COL Coggins.
The Corps of Cadets gathers in Wicker Chapel each Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday morning for chapel services. On Wednesday, the Academy will welcome Howe Rice to the Wicker Chapel as part of the Christian Leadership Series.
