Fork Union Military Academy's College Placement Department continues to provide valuable experiences for cadets exploring their future academic paths. Over the past two weeks, cadets had the opportunity to visit Randolph-Macon College and the University of Virginia, gaining insight into different collegiate environments and offerings.
On February 24, a group of three seniors and four juniors traveled to Randolph-Macon College, a private liberal arts institution in Ashland, Virginia. As a Division III school, Randolph-Macon offers a close-knit academic community. To ensure a personalized experience, cadets were divided by grade level for the campus tour, allowing tour guides to tailor information based on their upcoming college application needs. In addition to an informational session and guided tour, cadets enjoyed a meal in the Estes Dining Hall, getting a taste of campus life.
On March 4, another group of cadets set out to explore the University of Virginia, a prestigious public university in Charlottesville. One senior and seven juniors participated in the trip, experiencing firsthand the rich history and academic excellence UVA offers. A highlight of the visit was seeing Edgar Allan Poe’s room, a preserved part of UVA’s history from when the famous poet attended the university. Additionally, cadets enjoyed an informative Dean’s Welcome session, a tour of the university’s iconic Grounds, and an off-campus lunch at Cookout or Zaxby’s. A special moment occurred when cadets ran into alumnus Robel Lulseged, Class of 2022, showcasing the lasting connection between Fork Union and its graduates.
These college visits continue to be an invaluable resource, helping cadets explore their options and refine their plans for life after Fork Union. By experiencing different types of institutions, from a small private college to a large public university, cadets gain clarity on what academic and campus environments best suit their goals.
The College Placement Department is eager to continue guiding cadets on their college search journey, with several more trips planned in the coming weeks. Upcoming visits include Virginia Military Institute, the University of Richmond, and James Madison University, providing even more opportunities for cadets to explore potential college destinations and prepare for the next step in their academic journeys.
