On Tuesday, April 22, seven cadets from Fork Union Military Academy had the unique opportunity to visit Luck Stone, a local aggregate company with deep roots on the East Coast and a strong commitment to values-based leadership. The experience offered cadets a firsthand look at diverse career opportunities and how their education, whether through college or trade school, can prepare them for success.

Luck Stone, a family-owned business founded in 1923, is celebrating its 100th anniversary and remains committed to developing future leaders. With a mission grounded in values that closely align with Fork Union’s own, the company welcomed cadets for the third consecutive year to participate in a full day of career exploration and mentorship.

Cadets were divided into small groups and rotated through interactive sessions with professionals across multiple fields, including:

  • Mining and Electrical Engineering
  • Product Processing
  • Human Resources and Training
  • Mobile Equipment Operation
  • Mechanics and Welding

Throughout the day, cadets engaged in meaningful conversations about the hiring process, job expectations, and career growth. They received practical advice on how to evaluate job offers, seek internships, and align personal values with professional environments.

Following the breakout sessions, cadets were treated to lunch and a guided tour of Luck Stone’s operations. Highlights included a visit to the historic Boscobel Plant, the original site that launched the Luck family business, and the Engineering of Support Facility, which features advanced rebuild and welding shops.

The visit was more than just a field trip. It was a valuable learning experience that broadened students’ understanding of post-graduation pathways. Cadets left with new perspectives on how to pursue rewarding careers across a wide range of industries, from business and engineering to skilled trades and technology.

Fork Union thanks Luck Stone for their continued partnership and commitment to preparing young men for life beyond the classroom.
