International trips help immerse students in the languages and cultures they have been studying, and can change their perceptions of the world we share and help them gain greater appreciation for other cultures as well as their own. Research reported by our tour partner, Explorica, says that 92% of students who travel report that the experience has a lasting impact on their worldview.
At the close of the 2021-2022 school year, a group of cadets jetted off to Germany, under the supervision of Fork Union Military Academy's German language instructor CPO Jim Rooney, USN (Ret.). Over the course of several days, cadets were able to experience first-hand the sights and sounds of European cities like Amsterdam, Paris, and Vienna, in addition to those cities in Germany at the core of their tour experience: Berlin, Lepzig, Dresden, Nuremburg, and Munich.
Cadet Chris Chadwell this week shared a number of photos with us from his whirlwind sightseeing adventure on this trip. Cadet Chadwell is a rising 9th grader from Seaford, Delaware, the son of Michael and Elizabeth Chadwell. He will be starting his second year at Fork Union Military Academy this fall.
We have added a number of Cadet Chadwell's photos to our galleries online at https://photos.forkunion.com/FUMA2021-2022/May-2022/Cadets-Take-Trip-to-Germany/.
Fork Union's staff and Explorica will team up again later this school year to take a trip to Italy in March of 2023. Regina Delman and CPT Michael Head will supervise cadets on a tour of Milan, Venice, Verona, Florence, and Rome all between March 10–March 17, 2023.
You can find a complete itinerary on our website at this link. Ms. Delman and CPT Head are still welcoming registrations for their trip to Italy with a registration deadline of November 30, 2022.
