Fork Union Military Academy will compete in Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II beginning with the 2026–2027 athletic year as part of VISAA’s statewide division alignment for the 2026–2028 classification cycle.
VISAA state championship divisions are determined by member school enrollment and are set for a two-year cycle. The 2026–2028 alignment is based on enrollment averages reported in fall 2024 and fall 2025.
Fork Union will continue to compete in the Virginia Prep League and Virginia Independent Athletic Conference, maintaining many of the Academy’s longstanding conference relationships and regular-season rivalries.
“Fork Union Military Academy Athletics is embarking on an exciting new chapter in our storied athletic history,” said Director of Athletics Winston Brown. “We look forward to competing in VISAA Division II and building new relationships across the division. This alignment will give our athletes and teams more opportunities to compete against programs of similar size. While we may be stepping into a new division, the goal remains the same: win championships.”
Athletics have long been an important part of the Fork Union experience, providing cadets with opportunities to build character, develop leadership, and compete as part of a team. The Division II alignment places Fork Union among schools of similar enrollment size while continuing to provide meaningful opportunities for student-athletes across the Academy’s varsity programs.
“Fork Union has a proud athletic tradition, and we remain committed to excellence, sportsmanship, and the mission of developing young men of character,” Brown said.
Fork Union will begin competing in VISAA Division II state championship competition during the fall 2026 athletic season. The alignment will remain in place through the spring 2028 season.
