Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.

The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:

Cadet Ian McHarg is a junior and first-year cadet in HSC Company. He is a boarding student from Apex, NC. Cadet McHarg volunteered to assist our Landscape Supervisor, Mr. Paul Pietrzyk, setting up tents for our annual Gus Lacy Track event. His initiative and pride in FUMA is appreciated. Bravo Zulu, Cadet McHarg!

Cadet Grant DeMorro is a senior and sixth-year cadet on our Battalion Staff. He is a day student from Palmyra, VA. Grant is our Battalion Commander or “BC” and earned the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel. He has performed superbly this year and the corps has won numerous national awards including AMCSUS (drill, physical fitness, and academics) and top honors for the band. For his outstanding leadership, he was awarded the meritorious promotion to Cadet Colonel. This award is the highest of the cadet ranks and has only been achieved once before in FUMA history. Bravo Zulu, Cadet DeMorro!

Ms. Jocelyn Stevens is recognized for her creativity and hard work in planning this year’s Military Ball and National Honor Society induction ceremonies, each of which took place this week. Over the last several months, Ms. Stevens has devoted many hours outside the classroom to planning such special events for our cadets that was enjoyed by many cadets. Bravo Zulu, Ms. Stevens!

Mr. Peter Schoebel and the SAGE Dining Team did an amazing job with the food for the Military Ball. Their flavor and presentation of their meals is magnifique! Bravo Zulu, Mr. Schoebel and the SAGE Dining Team!

Ms. Tara Harkins, HR Director, is recognized along with the housekeeping, landscaping, and maintenance team for celebrating 145 mishap-free workdays. Her supervision of safety education and training, as well as documentation, is key to safe operations. Bravo Zulu, Ms. Harkins!

Go FUMA!
