Fork Union Military Academy welcomed Delegate John McGuire to campus to speak to the Corps of Cadets as part of the Academy's Cadet Leadership Series this past Wednesday.
McGuire was born and raised in Henrico County, Virginia. As a child, he was abandoned and spent his early childhood years in the foster care system, attending nine different elementary schools. By the grace of God, his grandparents rescued him and his older sister from the foster care system and raised them until he graduated from Henrico County High School in 1988.
Following high school graduation, McGuire felt a call of service that led him to join the United States Navy. He served 10 years as a Navy SEAL, deploying to countries all across the world defending our nation before returning to Virginia in 1998.
Back in his hometown of Henrico, McGuire founded his small business, SEAL Team PT, Inc., a fitness organization dedicated to helping teams and individuals become stronger, healthier, and more confident. Twenty-two years later, his company is well renowned for changing peoples' lives and helping train Division I athletes and corporations all over the world.
In 2017, McGuire was elected as a Virginia State Delegate of the 56th district, comprising areas to the North and West of Richmond.
The Christian Leadership Series was started by one of the Academy's Board of Trustee members David Barrett. It is a program designed to bring successful Christian speakers to campus to help cadets see the intersections between faith, vocation, and leadership.
Since it began, the Christian Leadership Series has brought four or five men of faith to our campus each year to speak to our cadets and share how faith has played a significant part in their personal achievements.
