Winter Weather Update & Schedule Adjustments

We are closely monitoring the winter storm forecasted to impact our area this weekend and early next week. The safety of our cadets, families, faculty, and staff remains our top priority, and we have made several adjustments to next week’s schedule to ensure everyone’s well-being.

Please review the important updates below:

Academic Schedule Adjustments

  • Classes are canceled on Monday, January 26 due to anticipated severe winter weather.
  • Tuesday, January 27 will operate on a delayed start, with classes beginning at 0900.
    • Day students must be signed in by 0815.

With the canceled instructional day, the Term 3 exam originally scheduled for Friday, January 30 has been moved to Tuesday, February 3.

Leave Weekend (Friday, January 23 – Adjusted to Monday, January 26)

The scheduled leave weekend will remain open. We ask parents to use their best judgment when deciding whether to pick up and drop off their son, as winter weather is expected to arrive in the area on Saturday.

Due to the extremely cold temperatures expected throughout the week, we ask that all cadets return to campus by Monday, January 26 at 7:00 PM. Please note that FUMA Transportation will not be available.

If at any time road conditions seem too risky to transport your cadet to campus and they will not be in class on Tuesday, please notify us by emailing absent@fuma.org and reach out to your cadet’s teacher regarding any missed assignments.

Activities & Athletics

  • All activities scheduled for this weekend have been canceled.
  • The Fred Hardy Indoor Track Invitational, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been rescheduled for Friday, January 23 at 12:00 PM.
  • All remaining athletic events scheduled for the weekend have been canceled. Rescheduled dates will be posted on athletics.forkunion.com when determined.

Please rest assured that if your cadet remains on campus during this winter advisory, Fork Union Military Academy is fully prepared. We have multiple facilities equipped with backup generators, and our staff will ensure that all cadets are warm, well fed, and safe throughout the duration of the weather event.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate these weather-related changes. We will continue to communicate any additional updates as conditions develop.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Fork Union Military Academy.
