Parents Weekend Schedule of Events
Friday, October 18th
2:00PM - 5:00PM - Parent/Teacher Conferences - Conferences will take place in the teachers' classrooms and are by appointment only! Please contact your Cadet’s teacher in advance to schedule a personal conference. https://www.forkunion.com/directory/staff
Schedule Update: 3:00PM – 5:30PM – Family Cookout at the Fork Union stadium (Parade Field) - There will be a cookout tent set up next to the press box with burgers, hotdogs, watermelon and drinks. Please bring a side (last name A-K) or dessert (last name L-Z) to share and take into account you will not have access to electricity or cooling for your dish and bringing an item is optional and appreciated. Email email@example.com with your cadet’s name, the total number attending, and what you plan to contribute to the tailgate. Schedule Update: Cadets will meet families at the cookout and be released to sit with their families just after kick-off. Don’t forget to visit the Parents Association tent to buy your FUMA gear and 50/50 raffle tickets!
3:00 PM - Prep Football Senior Day Ceremony -- Parents of the 22 seniors on the Prep football team are encouraged to gather at the bottom of the field for a senior day ceremony at 2:45 PM. The ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00 PM
3:30PM - Prep Football vs. Collegiate School at the Fork Union stadium (Parade Field) – Show your spirit, and enjoy the game and fellowship with your cadet! Cadets are allowed to attend the tailgate and football game with their families. Families plese meet your cadet at the cookout. This will be senior night for the prep team with a short ceremony featuring senior football parents prior to the game.
4:30PM – 6:00PM – Free Time – Families can enjoy free time and dinner with their cadet(s) on campus (dinner will be served in the Estes Dining Hall from 4:30PM-6:00PM). The Social Center will be open during this time for families to hang out and have a little fun. Cadets will need to return to Jacobson Hall by 6:00PM to prepare for Retreat. Cadets cannot leave campus.
6:30PM - Retreat on Fraley Circle - Come watch your cadet in action. Cadets will return to Jacobson Hall after retreat for cleanup.
7:00 - 8:00PM – Planning for Your Future and Tailoring Your Purpose in Wicker Chapel – This presentation by our Office of Counseling and Cadet Services explains the college application process and explores all options for your Cadet after graduation. It is geared toward Upper School parents, but all are welcome.
Saturday, October 19th
8:00AM - 9:00AM – Abroad Opportunity– in Wicker Chapel - Meeting for all families planning on attending the 2020 trip to Italy and other opportunities regarding travel for your cadet.
9:00AM - 11:00AM - Open House in the Estes Athletic Center - Families are invited to meet and mingle with teachers, advisors and staff. There will be booths to visit, including FUMA's Famous Peanuts, Jostens class rings and graduation products, Woodworking Club, Interact Club, an Art Show, and a photographer for family photos. The Parents Association will have homemade apple butter and apple sauce, clothing, and FUMA gear for purchase. Pre-orders for FUMA t-shirts can be picked up at this event or shipped to your home. Don’t forget to participate in the 50/50 raffle! Light refreshments will be provided in the lobby of the Estes Athletic Center.
9:00AM - 11:00AM - Family Photos - LifeTouch Photography will be providing an opportunity to take family photos in the Estes Athletic Center Atrium.
9:00AM - 11:00AM - Barracks Visitation in Jacobson Hall - Tour your cadets FUMA home and meet his TAC Officer, as well as the rest of the Commandant’s Department.
11:30AM - First Call Formation on Fraley Circle - Take in the beauty of all the State Flags as cadets prepare for the first parade of the year. Parade immediately to follow on the Parade Field.
Cadets Dismissed for Leave Following the Parade
12:30 -1:30PM - Lunch in the Estes Dining Hall – Lunch will be provided for cadets’ parents/guardians and grandparents. Meal tickets for other family members may be purchased in the Estes Dining Hall.

FUMA’s Famous Peanuts: a favorite at Family Weekend for many years, are once again on sale. At $10 per bag, they make perfect gifts for family and friends. Each purchase also comes with a recipe book.
Apple Butter & Apple Sauce: a past parent and owner the Them Apples, LLC. will be providing homemade apple butter and sauce sourced from their family orchard with all proceeds to benefit the Parents Association. 1QT Apple Sauce $10, 1/2 Pint Apple Butter $5, and 1 Pint Apple Butter $10.
Raffle: The Parents Association will host a 50/50 raffle, tickets are 1 ticket for $10 or 3 for $20, the winner will be drawn at the conclusion of the parade.
The Woodworking Club: will be selling some of their works so make sure to check them out and see some of the awesome items cadets have made.
Box Tops for Education Due: Submit your box tops during Family Weekend to ensure they are included in our fall drive. Turn them in to Parents Association volunteers during Friday's family tailgate or at Saturday's open house. Happy clipping!
There are plenty of things to do and see if you are staying in the area. Including, Monticello, Michie Tavern, Carter Mountain Orchard, fall corn mazes at Liberty Mills Farm, Wintergreen Resort, local vineyards and breweries for the adults, and two amusement parks within driving distance: Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion. Also consider visiting Fluvanna’s local shops and attractions while in the area. Fork Union Gift Shop & Pharmacy, Sal’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, the Village Restaurant, LazySRanch, or Fruit Hill Orchard.
