Join the Parents Association

The Parents Association of Fork Union Military Academy is a voluntary association of parents who wish to support the mission of the Academy with their time, talents, and gifts.

The Parents Association provides direct support to the Academy's educational programs and technologies through their dues and fundraising endeavors.

Recent projects supported by the Parents Association have included the installation of digital smart boards and television upgrades in our classrooms, teacher appreciation awards, sponsorship of the Military Ball, providing prizes for cadets working our Phonathon, and hats for members of our sports teams.

The Parents Association also helps encourage parent participation and facilitates parent communication and networking.

OUR MISSION

The purpose of the Parents Association shall be to provide support and resources to the school for the benefit and educational growth of the cadets; to engage in fundraising endeavors; to develop parent leadership and build capacity for greater involvement; to foster and encourage parent participation; to provide a vehicle of communication for parents; and to create a network that connects fellow parents to one another.

Parents Association Representatives

The Parents Association Board consists of five class representatives here to support and guide other parents. They have volunteered their time to help new and returning parents in any way possible. Please feel free to reach out to them with questions and concerns.

Parent's Weekend 

Parent's Weekend is a ticketed event 🎟️ Please make sure you purchase tickets for certain events. 
 
 

Schedule of Events

Friday, October 10, 2025

Parents are welcome to arrive on campus at 2:00 PM.

2:15 PM - Parent’s Weekend Welcome by CAPT Black in the Wicker Chapel
    • The Academy President CAPT Mark Black will officially open Parent's Weekend with prayer and encouragement at 2 PM in the Wicker Chapel. 
🎟️3:00-5:00 PM - Multiple Events taking place on campus
    • Parent/Teacher Conferences: Faculty and coaches will be available to privately meet with parents in their classrooms by appointment only. Please email the teacher directly to schedule your appointment. Teachers will start accepting email appointments two weeks before Parent's Weekend. 
    • Afternoon Tea in the Library - Hosted by Mrs. Kim Black and the Parent's Association: Families can enjoy refreshments in the library and have the opportunity to learn more about the Parent's Association and meet other families on campus.
🎟️5:30-6:30 PM - Dinner in the Estes Dining Hall
    • Families can enjoy dinner with their cadets on campus from 5:30-6:30 PM in the dining hall. If parents sign up for the Parents Association, they will receive two free meal tickets, otherwise the dinner will cost $10 per person. Cadets and children under 5-years old are free of charge.
    • Families will also have a family photo opportunity with our campus photographer, Kristin Firewicz Studios.
    • Cadets will return to Jacobson Hall at 6:30 PM to prepare for Retreat and company competitions. 

6:30 PM - Retreat

    • Families are encouraged to depart campus after Retreat.
Saturday, October 11, 2025

Parents are welcome to arrive on campus at 9:00 AM.

9:00-11:00 AM - Open House
    • Families are invited to meet and mingle with teachers, advisors, and staff in the Estes Dining Hall. There will be booths to visit, including Jostens, who provides class rings and graduation products, Woodworking Club, and Interact Club.

11:00AM - Varsity Soccer vs. Fredericksburg Christian School (Outdoor Track/Soccer Field)

🎟️11:30 AM-12:30 PM - Family Tailgate at Sabre Square - $10 per family member. 

    • Families can enjoy a Family Tailgate at Sabre Square prior to the Varsity Football game. Cost is $10 per family member. Cadets and children under 5-years old are free of charge. 

1:00 PM - Varsity Football vs. Fredericksburg Christian School (Stadium Field)

4:00 PM - PG Lacrosse vs. Virginia State University (Outdoor Track/Soccer Field)

Parents are allowed to take their cadet off campus for Day Pass following all athletic requirements. Cadets must return to campus by 9 PM.

Sunday, October 12, 2025

Parents are welcome to arrive on campus at 10:00 AM.

10:00 AM - Chapel
    • Families can enjoy a special chapel service with their cadet beginning at 10 AM in the Wicker Chapel.
🎟️10:45 AM-12:15 AM - Sunday Bruch
    • Families can enjoy a Sunday Brunch with their cadet in the Estes Dining Hall. Cost is $10 per family member. Cadets and children under 5-years old are free of charge. 

1:30 PM - Parade

    • The first parade of the season will begin at 1:30 PM on the Stadium Field. 

Parents are allowed to take their cadet off campus for Day Pass following the parade at 2 PM. Cadets must return to campus by 7 PM for Call to Quarters.

Freshman, Sophomore, and Middle School Representatives Needed

We are currently in need of Freshman, Sophomore, and Middle School representatives. If your cadet is part of the 7th through 10th grade and you are interested in being part of the parents association board, please email shannonh@fuma.org.
