The National Weather Service is currently predicting a winter storm for the Central Virginia area from Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. We strongly encourage you to monitor the latest weather forecasts for the Fork Union area and plan accordingly to ensure safe travel. Should you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to your cadet’s TAC Officer or call the Guard Desk at 434-842-4232.
As a reminder, day students are assigned a room in Jacobson Hall from the beginning of the school year and have the option to spend the night on campus if inclement weather is a concern. Please remember that as a boarding school, we do not close or open late for bad weather like public schools, and we do not observe snow days. Classes will proceed as scheduled, and all cadets are expected to attend.
If you feel that weather conditions may make it difficult to arrive safely on Monday morning, we encourage you to consider spending Sunday night at FUMA. To make arrangements, please contact your TAC Officer. For reference, the Cadet "Blue" Book includes a list of recommended items for overnight stays.
All boarding cadets are expected to return to campus by 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 5th, as Term 3 classes will resume promptly on Monday morning. Please note that the Estes Dining Hall will not be open for lunch or dinner on Sunday evening, so ensure your cadet either eats before arriving or brings dinner with them.
We are pleased to publicly acknowledge Fork Union Military Academy has been selected to participate in the Presidential Inauguration Parade on January 20, 2025. We have been tentatively planning for this, but that effort is now being fully implemented. We will not be able to take the entire Corps of Cadets, but we will take as many as possible.
Thank you for all the support and well wishes we have received in conjunction with this initiative. It will culminate in a long day on January 20 in that we will go up to DC, go through the administrative processes, conduct the parade, and return all in the same day.
We will keep you informed of more details as they become available from the Presidential Parade and Planning Committee.
As the weather turns colder, we want to remind you that the only approved undergarment for all uniforms during the winter season is white long johns. If your cadet needs an extra layer of clothing under the uniform of the day, white long johns are the only acceptable option. Please note that sweatpants, or any other non-uniform items, are not permitted under Class A & Class B pants.
Please note: if your cadet is marching in the Inauguration Parade, he must have a pair of white long johns.
To ensure compliance, please make sure your cadet has a pair of white long johns prior to his return to campus. If needed, you may ship them to campus using the following address:
