As we approach Thanksgiving Break, we want to ensure a smooth and efficient process for your cadet's departure. Below are the important steps and deadlines to follow:
All families are required to submit a Leave Request for major leaves, including Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break, Spring Break, and End of Year Departure. This request is necessary to properly plan for your cadet’s transportation and departure from campus.
The deadline for submitting the Leave Request for Thanksgiving Break is November 1. Please make sure to submit your request before this date.
If your family requires Fork Union Military Academy to transport your cadet off campus, we offer two transportation options:

I do suggest that all parents review the Leaves, Day Passes, and Transportation page at your earliest convenience, even if you do not require FUMA Transportation for Thanksgiving Break.
Please keep in mind that FUMA Transportation is only available for Major Leaves. Private Hires have limited availability during other "non-mandatory" leave periods.
We have included step-by-step slides to guide you through the process of submitting the Leave Request and selecting the appropriate transportation option for your cadet.
Please select FUMA Transport if you wish to have your cadet ride a FUMA Shuttle to the following places: Richmond, VA AMTRAK (RVR), Richmond, VA Airport (RIC), or Lynchburg, VA Airport (LYH).
If you wish to have the Academy transport your cadet to anywhere else, please select FUMA Transport and select Private Hire under the Checklist options.

It is very important to know the details of an unaccompanied minor. Please read the information on the Leaves, Day Passes, and Transportation page for details.
The Academy will not be able to provide FUMA Transportation if a boarding pass/travel itinerary is not attached to the Leave Request. Please ensure that you attach all items to your Leave Request prior to submission.
Fork Union Military Academy is offering an all-inclusive week at the Outer Banks for cadets who cannot go home for Thanksgiving Break. The trip will feature lighthouse tours, relaxing sands, and exploration of the OBX history. The cost of this trip is $1,995. For more information, please reach out to Nevin McCoy at mccoyn@fuma.org.
