A Message from the Commandant of Cadets

March 11, 2024

Dear Cadet Parents and Guardians,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I want to take a moment and share my heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering support and partnership in the growth and development of our young cadets.

Throughout this academic year, we are witnessing remarkable transformations ongoing in our cadets. Their journey is one of discipline, resilience, and leadership—a journey that would not be possible without your encouragement, guidance, and trust.

Leadership Development:

Our cadets are embracing challenges set before them. They are learning to lead by example, to shoulder responsibilities, and to inspire their peers. Whether on the parade ground, in the classroom, or during extracurricular activities, their leadership qualities have been shining brightly. They are coming to understand that leadership is not about rank or title; it is about character, integrity, and service.

Character and Values:

The foundation of leadership lies in character. Your sons are internalizing the core values we hold dear at Fork Union: Respect, Integrity, Faith, Character, and Discipline. They are learning that leadership is not a solitary endeavor but a collective effort—one that requires empathy, active listening, and a genuine concern for others. Their interactions with fellow cadets, faculty, and staff reflect these principles.

Resilience and Adaptability:

Life at Fork Union Military Academy demands adaptability. Our cadets are being challenged academically, in physical training, and in areas of personal growth, requiring their unwavering determination. They are learning to adapt to changing circumstances, to overcome obstacles, and to emerge stronger. Their developing resilience is a testament to their character and your valuable support.

Community and Brotherhood:

The bonds forged within our cadet community are unbreakable. During this year, your sons have become part of a brotherhood that transcends time and distance. They have celebrated victories together, supported each other during setbacks, and formed friendships that will last a lifetime. As parents, you are an integral part of this extended family, and we are grateful for your trust in our mission.

Spring Break:

We look forward to the return of our cadets this coming Sunday and hope that you take this time to rest, rejuvenate, and enjoy quality moments with your sons. Whether you embark on family adventures or savor quiet moments at home, cherish this opportunity to reconnect and create lasting memories.

Gratitude:

In closing, I extend my deepest gratitude to each of you. Your encouragement during challenging moments, your attendance at events, and your unwavering belief in our cadets have made a significant impact. You are partners in their growth, and we are honored to share this journey with you.

Thank you for entrusting your sons to Fork Union Military Academy. Together, we shape leaders who will make a positive difference in the world.

Wishing you all an enjoyable and rejuvenating Spring Break!

Respectfully,

Charlie E. Coulter III has been selected to be the next Commandant of Cadets at Fork Union Military Academy.
