Cadet Christian Jack Yates, a 10th grader at Fork Union Military Academy from Leesburg, Virginia, has been awarded a $500 scholarship grant by the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) and the Purple Heart Foundation in memory of his grandfather who was awarded the Purple Heart in service with the US Navy in war.
In 2001, the Purple Heart Foundation coordinated with AMCSUS to establish a scholarship fund designed to provide military school cadets in high school and college with awards honoring the service and sacrifice of their relatives who have been recipients of the Purple Heart. Each year, a percentage of the proceeds from this investment account are used to provide cadets at AMCSUS member schools with $500 scholarships.
The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (amcsus.org) was founded in 1914 and serves as an advocate for America's premier military colleges and schools. The association includes 25 college prep military high schools and 13 colleges.
The Purple Heart Foundation (purpleheartfoundation.org) was established in 1957 and helps fund programs and services to assist veterans throughout the United States through academic scholarships, resources for PTSD treatment, service dogs, and veteran assistance grants.
