The year is off to a good start and the cadets are busy with military training and athletics. Telephones and email will be activated August 31 and you should hear from your son soon, if you have not already.
Leave, Day Passes and visitations begin September 7th. As eligible cadets prepare for their first leave, they will be contacting you to make plans. To be eligible for this leave, Cadets may not have more than 10 Extra Duty tours or Academic Detention by Thursday at 1015 hours and must not have a prior commitment. Leaves begin at 12:30 PM on Friday and end at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Cadets having Academic Detention may leave at 5:00 PM Friday and return at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Day Passes and or visitations begin at 1100 AM on September 8th and end at 9:00 PM. Sunday Day Passes begin at 1100 and end at 7:00 pm.
The first Winning Company and Exemplary Conduct leave is October 26th, all eligible cadets may leave 12:30 PM and return before 7:00 PM on Sunday, the 28th. Cadets living in the “winning” company and those cadets having exemplary conduct for Term 1 are authorized leave.
Thanksgiving Leave is a mandatory leave and begins at 12:30 PM on November 16th and ends at 7:00PM on Sunday November 25th. A very short time later Christmas Leave (also mandatory) begins on December 14th and ends at 7:00 PM on January 2, 2019. We have found that it is a good idea to make your transportation reservations early to save money and have a better selection of connecting flights. Early departures and late returns are not authorized. Charter buses will be available for transportation to and from 6 different airports, train and bus stations. The schedule and form to request transportation is available on the Web site in the download forms section. Please keep in mind that Fork Union is 1 hour from Charlottesville and Richmond and at least 2.5 hours from the DC area so please leave ample time for travel and waiting as required by the public transportation you have selected.
Please let us know if you have questions or need further information.
Thank you for your support!
