German IV is a course designed for all cadets who have successfully completed a course in German III at the Academy or at another accredited school, and who are planning on continuing their study of German at the university level. The course consists of a thorough review of all grammar and usage as well as a continuation of vocabulary building through more advanced and extensive readings in German. Advanced grammatical structures are introduced and practiced. In addition to grammar, there is an emphasis on reading and comprehension of literary and authentic realia material through the use of supplementary reading books. A 10-minute presentation dealing with some aspect of German history, written and presented orally in German, is required of each student. All students will take the CLEP test to earn college credit, and more advanced students are encouraged to take either the SAT II or AP German exam.
