Every Friday the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.

The following are the Bravo Zulu awards for this week:

Cadet Sergeant First Class Emerson Smith is a junior and first-year cadet in Bravo Company. He is a boarding student from Stowe, VT. Cadet Smith was honored this week by earning a place on the All-Virginia Prep League Football Team. He led the FUMA prep team with 37 receptions, 627 yards and 4 touchdowns. His hard work and dedication made him a leader both on and off the field. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Smith!

Cadet Private Joshua McGuire is an eighth grader and second-year cadet in Charlie Company. He is a day student from Louisa, VA. A short time ago Cadet McGuire was afforded the opportunity to visit Italy and France. He toured many battlefields where American soldiers gave their lives during WWII. Cadet McGuire without being prompted took it upon himself to salute every cross on a gravesite at Montecasino. His honor and respect to our past veterans is a testament to his character and his appreciation to service. Bravo Zulu, Cadet McGuire!

Cadet Sergeant Roman Molina is a tenth grader and second-year cadet in HSC. He is a boarding student from Butler, PA. When the Class B uniform schedule was announced, Cadet Molina immediately taught younger cadets how to shine their shoes. He proactively seeks opportunities to develop those under his authority. Bravo Zulu, Cadet Molina!

MAJ Gary Leydig, Admissions Counselor, invested his personal time to assist an applicant’s family find a tutor. Due to his generosity, the family made a donation to the Academy in honor of Gary. Bravo Zulu, MAJ Leydig!

LTC Rotche Strickland, Instructor, came out of his part-time retirement to step into the classroom Term 2 to fill an unexpected void. Since stepping back into the classroom, LTC Strickland has done a great job working with our PG cadets teaching statistics. His dedication to the Academy in this instance—and during his 33 years of service to the school—is greatly appreciated. Bravo Zulu, LTC Strickland!
