Fork Union Military Academy offers a Resource-Learning Skills Program designed to provide assistance to Cadets in grades 7-PG who desire supplemental academic support beyond the classroom. Cadets enrolled in the program receive 45 minutes of instruction 4 days per week, typically in classes of 6 to 8 cadets.
The Resource-Learning Skills program provides general academic support in such areas as organizational strategies, time management, note-taking, test preparation, and study skills. Further, the Resource teacher collaborates regularly with the classroom teacher in considering particular needs and learning styles while developing an individual learning plan for each enrolled cadet.
Cadets with previously diagnosed and relatively mild learning difference may benefit from inclusion in the Resource Program, as will any cadet who has previously received an IEP or 504 Plan. However, a cadet does not need an active or previously active IEP or 504 to enroll in the program. If, at any point during an academic term, a cadet achieves a grade of B+ or higher, daily participation in the Resource class becomes optional.
There is an annual cost for enrollment in the Resource-Learning Skills Program.
If you are interested in having your son enrolled, please review the Resource Enrollment Form which can be found at the bottom of the page. For more information about the program or for help enrolling, please contact our Resource Instructor, Mrs. Kelsey Hill, via e-mail at HillK@fuma.org
