Coach Fletcher Arritt has dedicated his life to Fork Union Military Academy as an athlete, teacher and coach. He came as a postgraduate player in 1958 to FUMA and earned a scholarship to UVA. He has led the PG basketball team to victory over 75% of his time at the Academy and led more than 150 Division I basketball players to the NBA. He heads up the Summer Basketball Camp in Fork Union each year and has become a legend among his students and players.

CPT Brett Balhoff teaches 6th and 8th grade science. He is the head coach of the Middle School soccer team and one of the Academy’s swim team coaches. CPT Balhoff is currently in the graduate program at the University of Virginia, working toward a Master's degree in Education. CPT Balhoff and his wife, Mindy, reside in Fork Union.

LTC Billingsley was a member of the 1977 Post Graduate class at FUMA. As TAC Officer he works directly with cadets on a day-to-day basis in matters of military training, discipline and preparation for life. LTC Billingsley also was an assistant varsity football coach for first his 13 years at FUMA and coached on the collegiate level from 1981 until 1989.

MAJ William Blanchetti was a History teacher at the Middle School prior to his position as Commandant. He also taught previously at the Blue Ridge School. He and his wife, Terri, live within walking distance to the Middle School. They have six children. His son, Will, is a graduate of FUMA.

Coach Bocci came to FUMA after the completion of the new Acquatics Center in 2005. Since that time he has managed to create a powerhouse swim team at FUMA. He also is the Head Coach of FUAC (Fork Union Acquatics Club) that competes on the US Swimming team level. He lives with his wife, Kerrie, and son, Sergio, on the FUMA campus.

Prior to teaching at FUMA, Mrs. Bocci worked in public schools in Virginia, Texas, Pennsylvania and Ohio for 5 years teaching sciences in grades 7 to 12. She has coached soccer and swimming for numerous years, been an advisor and currently serves on the crisis management team. She is married to FUMA's Aquatics Director, Jim Bocci, and they have one son, Sergio.

COL Brown currently teaches AP English, Senior Writing, Creative Writing and English 4 but has taught all grade levels. He is the National Honor Society advisor; serves on Instructional Council and Hearing Tribunal; and has coached basketball and tennis. His wife, Susan, teaches in the Fluvanna County school system. They have two daughters. He spends summers in Wisconsin at his cottage on Eagle Lake.

Coach Brown has been the Track Coach since he came to FUMA. He has taught in the Middle School and now teaches in the Upper School. He directs the FUMA Cross Country Invitational and the Gus Lacy Track Classic. He has been named Coach of the Year and led the outdoor track title 11 times; indoor state title 2 times; and the cross country title 3 times. Prior to coming to FUMA, Coach Brown taught in the Portsmouth public school system.

CPT Aaron Butt is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he majored in English and minored in Religious Studies. While at UVA, he was active in the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. He has experience in business management and in teaching English as a second language. CPT Butt and his wife, Nicole, are very active in their church. He has led mission trips through his church to Honduras and to England. They reside in Fork Union.

Mrs. Childress came to FUMA after retiring with 32 years of service at General Motors, first with Chevrolet Motor Division and then GMAC. As the President's Secretary, she works closely with FUMA's Board of Trustees and manages the day-to-day tasks and schedules of Lt.General Jackson. She and her husband live in nearby Buckingham County.

LTC Cobb graduated from FUMA in 1971. He joined the Academy in 1979 and has held a variety of positions including Commandant, teacher and coach. In 1995 he became the Executive Director of Development. He supervises all aspects of fundraising and recently led the school in a $29 million capital campaign. He works closely with donors, parents, alumni, volunteers, trustees and friends in support of development efforts. He lives with his wife, Henri, in Fork Union. They have 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren.

Mrs. Cobb works closely with all of the coaches in the Athletic Department and is in charge of atheletic schedule changes, administrative duties assigned to athletic events and games, and general communication between staff, coaches and parents during the course of year. She has lived in Fork Union with her husband, Bobby, a FUMA alumnus and Director of Development, since 1979. They have three children and 6 grandchildren.

Mrs. Jeni Fick's duties extend from Saturday afternoon through Tuesday morning. She works as an associate broker for a real estate agency in the county. Mrs. Fick is active with the Fluvanna County Habitat for Humanity. She and her husband, Thomas, have 5 children. She has 7 grandchildren.

CSM Garcia retired from the US Army in 2001, after serving 24 years, primarily as a criminal investigator. She has completed extended overseas tours of duty; traveling throughout Europe and portions of Asia, and has traveled extensively throughout the Continental US, Alaska, and Hawaii.
CSM Garcia teaches freshman English, elective art, coaches JV soccer, and manages the Quadrille Club. CSM Garcia resides in Fork Union, VA with her husband.

LTC Giszack lives on campus with his wife Katherine and two sons, Micah and Jared. Prior to joining the Academy’s administrative team, he spent seven years teaching Chemistry and Biology in the Upper School, and coaching cross country and track. His current responsibilities include administering the Academy’s need-based tuition assistance program, overseeing the facilities support staff, and other administrative responsibilities.

Dr. Grant completed a 30 year career in the public schools of Virginia prior to becoming Guidance Director at FUMA in 2002. His previous positions include: Middle and High School Counselor, Director of the International Baccalaureate Program, Norfolk VA Public Schools; Coordinator of SOL testing for the City of Norfolk and both Middle and High School Principal.
He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He resides in Fork Union with his wife and younger son Alexander, FUMA, Class of 2004.

Mrs. Pam Haislip's duties are many and varied, including maintaining student academic and discipline records, managing the student allowance program, and directing all office traffic. She is a crucial link between faculty, parents, and cadets. Mrs. Haislip and her husband, Jerry, live in Scottsville. They have two children, Billy and Julie, and three grandchildren.

CPT Haney worked in Tennessee for about 10 years in the food business, and a couple of years in North Carolina. He returned to Fluvanna County in 1997 and sold insurance for the first several years. He has taught math in the public school He has two sons, Jeremy, graduated from FUMA in 2008 and now attends the Naval Academy. Caleb is a senior this year at FUMA. His wife is a teacher in Fluvanna County and he has a daughter attending public school.

Mrs. Hanlin has held many positions at the Academy as Secretary to the Treasurer (6 years); Secretary to the Headmaster and Commandant of Middle School (12 Years); Secretary to the Upper School Dean (8 years); and has held her current position as Registrar since 1996. She offers a wealth of knowledge to cadets, faculty, staff and families. Her son was a FUMA cadet - Jon Austin, Class of 1985. She also serves as the Community Service Sponsor and oversees a variety of activities for facutly, staff and cadets to become involved in the local community.

Mrs. Higginbotham is the Chief Financial Officer for the Academy and works closely with the President and Board of Trustees in overseeing the financial aspects of the Academy. Mrs. Hitchcock working part-time in Admissions in 1980, moved to the President’s Office full-time to work with Colonel Pulliam (then Interim President) in 1990 and served as the President's Secretary until taking a position in Development at the University of Virginia. She returned in 2004 during FUMA’s capital campaign to help oversee fundraising and donor contact. She lives with her husband, Bill, in Fork Union. They have two daughters and one grandchild.

LTC Hitchcock came to Fork Union in 1974 as a teacher in the Social Studies Department and football coach. He has enjoyed working with generations of cadets and stays in touch with many of his former students. He teaches government, political science (including a dual enrollment course which offers college credit), and AP government.

MAJ Hooper was born in Maryland and raised in the Tidewater area of North Carolina and Virginia. He graduated from Isle of Wight Academy in 1973 and attended Brigham Young University before serving a church mission to Guatemala from 1976 to 1978. Upon returning, he once again attended Brigham Young University before transferring to Christopher Newport College where he received his B.A. in Spanish in 1982. He worked on a Masters in Statistics at Brigham Young University before accepting a job teaching mathematics and Spanish at Albemarle Academy for the academic year of 1984-1985. At the end of the academic year he returned to Brigham Young to finish his masters, but teaching and coaching was now in his blood. He also coached three sports, including the 1986 VAAC baseball champions who finished with a 15-0 record.
He has coached football, baseball and other sports as needed. He also assist with SAT prep classes. He is an avid reader who enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.

Lt.Gen. John E. Jackson, Jr., USAF (Ret.) has an extensive resume. His military service includes serving as an air liaison officer, forward air controller, flying the 0-1 Birddog in 398 combat missions over Vietnam. He was selected for duty as an instructor pilot, followed by professional military education and Pentagon staff assignments. He served thirty-one years in the Air Force. His military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster; Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster; Distinguished Flying Cross; Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster; Air Medal with 14 oak leaf clusters; Air Force Commendation Medal; Vietnamese Air Medal of Honor; and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. He serves on the Boards of the Christian Embassy, Washington, DC, The Virginia Association of Independent Schools, and The Covenant School, Charlottesville, VA. He serves VAIS on the Board of Directors as President and has served on the Membership, Governance, and Legislative Committees. He has served as President of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States, and is a Governor of Alderson-Broaddus College. He is a 32nd degree Mason.
He assumed the position as 9th President of the Academy at a critical juncture in its history, leading the Academy’s 100th Anniversary celebration and working to insure its premier place among private educational institutions into the twenty-first century.

CPT Snead was born and raised in Fluvanna County. His great grandfather was one of the original guarantors of the Academy and his family has continued to have a long standing relationship with the school. Prior to coming to FUMA, he owned and operated Harris Tire Company in Tidewater, VA. He and his wife live in Palmyra. They have four children.

CPT Sparks teaches AP Psychology and Spanish. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Psychology; after completion of his Master's degree, he plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Psychology, as well. CPT Sparks' previous employment included teaching Spanish at a private, Christian day school for five years and served as an at-risk youth counselor for two and a half years. In the realm of the extracurricular, CPT Sparks hosts a guitar club, serves as fine arts assistant, and assists with the prep basketball team. He thoroughly enjoys playing his guitar, playing basketball, reading, the fine arts, Porsche sports cars, and art house

LTC Sullivan is the Athletic Director, as well as the head Prep football coach and assistant indoor and outdoor track coach. He serves as the Director of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Football Association as well as the Director of the Virginia Prep League. He first came to FUMA as a cadet and graduated in 1966 (PG, 1967).

Mrs. Taddei provides general human resources administration, including employee benefits and payroll services to FUMA’s faculty and staff, assists with Cadet customer service in the Business Office, and helps with allowance distribution. Mrs. Taddei sponsors the FUMA Catholic Cadet Association with her husband, Rich, who is FUMA’s Athletic Trainer. They have two sons.

CPT Thompson brings a wealth of knowledge and talent to the Communications and Development departments at FUMA. He serves as webmaster, photographer, editor of the Call to Quarters, and producer of the Academy radio shows "In the Paint" and "Shuman Says." He designs the advertising materials and other marketing pieces used in Admissions and fundraising. He lives in Fork Union and has two children.

Mrs. Vaughan-Shields began working at FUMA as a receptionist. She moved into Development during a crucial time to assist with fundraising and donor contact. She works closely with the Executive Director of Development, Alumni Affairs, Advancement Office and Communications Department in many admsinistrative capacities. She coordinates the Silent Auction in the Spring, processes all donations to the Academy, and serves as a liaison with the Parents Association. She lives in Fluvanna County with her husband and has two daughters.

LTC Washington has taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grade general math and currently teaches Algebra and Pre-algebra. He is the contact person for the middle school leave program. He retired from the US Naval Reserve in 1994 after 26 years of service. He has two children, two grandchildren and lives with his wife in Scottsville.

Besides holding the position of Coordinator for the Guidance Department, Mrs. White schedules and oversees SAT Prep Courses, and supervises SAT and ACT administrations for FUMA. She also works very closely with the psychologist for the school, and files all SSD paperwork for the cadets. She attends the College Board Forum each year, and has completed an extensive Leadership Training Class through Virginia Tech, and since then has been chosen to join the steering committee. Mrs. White, her husband, and daughter reside in Fork Union.

Prior to the appointment as Deputy Commandant of the Upper School, Major Williamson was TAC Officer for Charlie Company and Alpha Company respectively, and assistant to the Choir Director. Major Williamson retired from the United States Army after twenty years of meritorious service in Virginia, Hawaii, Missouri, and Germany. He is single and has a son who resides in Charlottesville, VA, a daughter in Richmond, VA, and three grandchildren.
