Parents Weekend Schedule of Events

Friday, October 19

1:00-5:00 PM   Parenting the Military Boarding School Cadet - This seminar will be presented by Dr. Barry Hensley, the Academy's consulting psychologist. The cost is $25 for a reference book which will be available at check-in. Seating is limited. To reserve a spot contact, Ann Yonce at 434/842-4314 or email yoncea@fuma.org.

               

2:00-5:00 PM  Middle School Only - Parents who live within an hour's driving distance may meet with faculty and staff

3:30 PM        JV Soccer vs Woodberry Forest at 3:30 PM

3:30 PM        Prep Football vs Collegiate at 3:30 PM

6:30-8:30 PM  Parents' Association All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner -

Estes Dining Hall  Tickets are $10/adults, $5/children nine and under.

Menu includes: Traditional Lasagna, Vegetable Lasagna, Baked Ziti,

Selection of pasta and sauces, Italian Wedding Soup, Spumoni and Tiramisu

If you haven't joined the Parents' Association, take this chance to join.  A $50 donation includes two adult dinner tickets and a 10% discount card on all purchases at the Cadet Store. Due to commitments in the barracks cadets will not join parents at the spaghetti dinner.

                         

       

Saturday, October 20

             

Faculty and staff members meet with parents.

 

8:30-11:00 AM   Middle School parents/guardians and grandparents gather at the Middle School Classroom Building to meet with teachers and staff.

Refreshments are served in the dining hall.  (See Letter from Middle School Headmaster)

8:30-9:30 AM - LtGen. Jackson will visit with parents

 

9:00-11:00 AM  Upper School parents and grandparents gather at the Estes Athletic Center for registration and refreshments. 

Teachers, Advisors and Staff will also be available at this time in the Estes Athletic Center.

9:00-11:00 AM - Parents may visit the barracks.

9:45-11:00 AM - LtGen. Jackson will be in the Estes Center to meet parents.

Cadets are excused at 10:00 AM to join their families at the Estes Center.

 

11:00 AM   Upper School and Middle School cadets return to barracks to prepare for parade.

11:30 AM   First call for parade formation

11:45 AM   Parade - Upper and Middle School Cadet Corps

12:30-1:30 PM   Lunch in the dining hall is provided for cadets' parents/guardians

and grandparents.  Meal tickets for other family members may be purchased in the Estes Dining Hall. ($8.40 for adults, $3.15 for children under 9 years old.)

 

1:00-4:00 PM    The Academy Museum, located on the corner of the Academy entrance and Rt. 15, will be open.

 

9:30 PM       TAPS - Middle School

10:00 PM     TAPS - Upper School

 

Leave and Day Pass Regulations

    

Leaves:  A special leave will be permitted only for cadets who can leave and return to campus with their parents or the parents of another cadet who have invited them.

 

Day Passes:   Day passes are available on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday and Monday as follows:

 

Upper School:    Saturday - 20 October - after parade until 9:30 PM

                        Sunday   - 21 October - 8:30 AM until 9:30 PM

                        Monday - 22 October - 8:30 AM until 6:30 PM

 

Middle School:   Saturday - 20 October - after parade until 9:00 PM

                        Sunday - 21 October - 8:30 AM until 9:00 PM   

                        Monday - 22 October - 8:30 AM until 7:00 PM

 

Reminders:

 

Parking: There are various places on the campus to park.  A parking detail of cadets and faculty will direct you to the parking areas.

 

Lodging: Our Motor Lodge has limited space therefore your plans should include reservations for a room in either Charlottesville or Richmond.

 

We ask that dogs not be brought on campus.
