Fork Union Military Academy's Middle School offers an ideal educational setting for boys in grades seven and eight. All of our programs are designed to meet the academic, developmental, and spiritual needs of boys in this age group. In our classrooms, Cadets participate in innovative hands-on academic classes as well as enriching elective courses such as Latin, Study Skills, Biblical Studies, Introduction to Cultures, Art, Drama, Band/Choir, Leadership, and a variety of unique topical seminar classes. There is enhanced adult supervision in place, as well as a well-formed mentoring program with assistance from a group of exemplary high school Cadets. And of course, we offer a significant set of athletic and extra-curricular offerings. Outside the classroom, there are plenty of opportunities to have fun through club participation, advisory meetings, field trips, and special events on campus. In recent years we have offered such things as laser tag, air-soft, SCUBA lessons, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking and fishing, and cultural excursions to places like New York City and Washington DC.
As a college-preparatory school, the Academy partners with parents as we begin the process of equipping middle school boys for their futures. Our Guidance Staff meets with all students individually, and begins the preparedness dialogue through offering standardized testing, individual assessments, and academic and personality inventories. The 7th and 8th grade students meets with a team of faculty advisors every week to discuss various foundational elements of college readiness.
The Military Program is designed to teach a set of timeless values such of respect, accountability, self-discipline, teamwork, hygiene, and pride in positive accomplishment. Through his experience at the Middle School, a cadet is given the opportunity for growth in all areas of his life. It is the mission of the faculty and staff to ensure that each boy is provided a safe, secure, and supportive environment in which to grow and develop his potential.
