The Fork Union Military Academy PG football team defeated an always tough Louisburg College squad 24-16 on Saturday, September 11th. FUMA was led on offense by QB Dustin Paonessa's 112 yards through the air and his 3 TD passes; one to TE Jordan Jones, one to WR Antonio Belt and one to WR/Returner Justin Lord. Tyrek Cheeseboro (“the cheese”) added another TD reception of 58 yards but this time from QB Andre Coble, who finished the afternoon with 31 yards rushing and 154 yards passing. He also chipped in an above average day punting with five punts for a 39 yard average.

WR/Returner Justin Lord added 94 kickoff return yards on the day and just missed stepping out of bounds on one that would have went down as 81 yards. RB Mike Arnold, on top of his kickoff duties, added 9 carries for a tough 37 yards. RB Erick Howard added 14 carries for 71 tough yards.

FUMA's defense was solid from top to bottom as the entire unit swarmed to the football. DB Aaron Sye led a very stingy secondary with 9 tackles including two for lossthree PBU's (Pass Breakups), and one QB Sack. DB's Lorenzo Smith and Anton McCallum added 3 PBU’s each along with 6 tackles. McCallum also forced a fumble. LB Justin Hughes flew around all day contributing 7 tackles, 1 QB sack and 4 QB hurries as he harassed Louisburg’s QB’s all day long.

FUMA’s big guys up front: Quarles, Kirksey, Pierre, Walton, Owens, and Paschal played fast and physical all day long. DE/LB Xander Carpousis contributed a few tackles on the afternoon, but his biggest contribution was a blocked punt that he recovered inside the opponent's 15 yard line.

FUMA's excitement and tone was set on offense by one of Coach Shuman's own, passing-game coordinator Josh Hyman. A former postgraduate and former VT Hokie standout provided the "young guy" touch as he meticulously navigated his way through the FUMA offensive plays. Coach Shuman was very happy with Coach Hyman's hard work and contributions.

FUMA will be in action on Sunday, September 19th at Wagner College (JV team) in Staten Island, NY. FUMA is now 1-1 on the young season.
