Returning postgrad football players always a welcome sight
With the upcoming Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Tournament scheduled for this Friday, June 18th, Coach Shuman expects to be seeing a lot of familiar faces in the days ahead as past postgraduate athletes and others play some golf and help raise money for scholarships.
Coach Shuman's week got off to a great start as Class of 2005's Norman Gee of Severna Park, MD stopped by campus for a visit on Tuesday. Gee played on the the 2004-2005 football team that included current NFL pro defensive end Phillip Merling, as well as other standouts like Durrell Barry, Elsmore Gabriel who played with Merling at Clemson.
Gee went on to play two years at Duke, primarily at tight end, before transferring to Colorado State University to finish up his college playing career. "Those 0 and 12 seasons at Duke were a little hard to take as a football player," Gee tells us, "so I made the transfer to CSU." Gee finished up his final college season this past fall.
Gee is headed to Florida where he hopes to join the Florida Tuskers, the United Football League professional team based in Orlando and coached by Jay Gruden, the brother of former NFL coach and commentator Jon Gruden.
"I love seeing former PG players come back for a visit," Coach Shuman said, "and I hope even more will stop by campus to say hello and spend some time with us."
