Indoor Track reclaims Prep League Title

Fork Union Military Academy’s Indoor Track team reclaimed the Prep League Title at the Estes Center on Saturday. After a year hiatus, the track team has returned to winning ways with an undefeated season. FUMA hosted the meet for the first time since 2004. The title was the fifth in six years. A week earlier the Blue Devils captured the VISAA Indoor title at Saint Christopher’s School.

FUMA had winners in eight of the fifteen events and were led by seniors Eddie Jones and Jamel Turner. Turner won the high jump, 55 high hurdles and was the runner –up in the 55 dash. Turner also took third in the shot put with a 45 foot throw. It was his first meet in the event. Eddie Jones was the field event MVP, placing in all three jumping events. Jones picked up his second long jump title and was third in the high jump and second in the triple jump.

Junior Wojciech Czernek won the 500 and 3200 meter runs. For Czernek it was the second week in a row that he left a meet with two wins. Russell Bodine won the shot put and Philip Parmly qualified for the Nationals in the pole vault with a 14’3 win. Josh Morris produced two personal bests in an hour’s time finishing third in the 1600 and winning the 1000. One of the big stories for FUMA was the performance of 8th grader Tryon McDade in the high jump. McDade set a personal best of 6’0.
