An early start for Winter Weekend Leave

By all accounts it appears that there is a substantial winter storm bearing down on the central Virginia region. Precipitation is likely to begin in and around Fork Union early tomorrow morning, Friday 05 February, and we anticipate that travel to and from campus may be substantially hindered by this weather event. If you had plans to pick up your Cadet tomorrow for the Winter Leave Weekend, we invite you to pick him up at any time after 3:00 pm today, Thursday 04 February.

All off-campus athletic competitions scheduled for today and this weekend have been cancelled, although the home basketball games scheduled for tonight will be played. If your Cadet is a member of either the junior-prep or prep basketball teams, we ask that he remain on campus to play the games scheduled for tonight.

If you intend to utilize the charter bus from the Academy to accommodate your travel needs, you should check with the Commandant’s Department later today to verify the bus schedule. We will do our best to keep you informed.

Please understand that unlike Christmas Leave, the Winter Weekend Leave is not mandatory and on-campus services will remain in place throughout the weekend. If your Cadet is going to remain on campus, he will be well cared for.
