January Middle School News
Office of the Headmaster
Fork Union Military Academy
Middle School
January 21, 2010
Dear Parents,
I hope that this letter finds all of you well. As I am sure you are aware, the 3rd grading period (and the 1st semester) ended on Monday. Grades have been finalized and should be accessible through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Copy and paste http://powerschool.fuma.org/public into the address field (not Google) and then type in your username and password. Please let me know if you have any difficulty accessing your son’s grades. Grades and comments for the 1st and 2nd grading periods are available on the “Grades History” button on the top toolbar. You will need to click on the individual final grade for each class to access the list of assignments and teacher comments. Please feel free to contact any of your son’s teachers with questions or concerns regarding your son’s grades. The teachers’ names on your son’s report card link directly to their email addresses.
(Note to parents of new cadets: In the next day or two I will be emailing you a letter with information about how to access PowerSchool so that you are able to keep track of your son’s grades.)
On a different note, this weekend is an Excellent Conduct leave, open just to those cadets who earned Excellent Conduct status for the 3rd grading period. Attached is a roster of those cadets who earned this distinction. Because of the late notification, there will be no penalty if a leave slip is submitted late for this weekend’s leave. Next weekend is an Academic Leave. Cadets who earned Academic Honors for this most recent grading period will be eligible to go home on this leave. I will be emailing the list of our Academic Honors cadets to you by Monday. The weekend of February 5th – 8th is a Free Leave weekend. All cadets are eligible for this leave. Please remember to submit all leave plans to LTC Washington at washington@fuma.org by the Wednesday prior to the desired leave weekend. The following information is needed for any requested leave:
Name of cadet:
Date of leave:
Mode of transportation:
Name of driver and relationship to cadet:
Our winter Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Friday, February 26th, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM and again on Saturday, February 27th, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. These are not mandatory, but they do provide you a good opportunity to meet with your son’s teachers to discuss his academic progress. There are no individually scheduled conferences. They will be held on a “first-come, first served” basis and will involve waiting in lines at the teachers’ doors. Once you have met with your son’s teachers, you are welcome to take him for the remainder of the weekend, returning him to campus Sunday evening, February 28th by 7:00 PM. If you choose not to conference with your son’s teachers, you may check your son out for leave per standard procedures.
Please feel free to contact me at 434-842-4261 or by email at feathers@fuma.org should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
LTC Rob Feathers
