Swine Flu (H1N1) Update:

We have been informed by the Virginia Department of Health that three cases of the H1N1 virus have been confirmed in Virginia. So far, the experience in Virginia has mirrored what has been seen in other states, with cases appearing very similar to seasonal influenza cases. No cases have been identified within our county. Fork Union Military Academy continues frequent communication with the local and district health departments regarding this virus. The Centers for Disease Control has outlined several measures that may be helpful in preventing spread of this virus: 1.Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. 2.Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective. 3.Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth to avoid spreading of germs. 4.Stay at home if you get sick to limit contact with others and to keep from infecting them. Students, faculty and staff have been educated on the CDC recommended preventative and hygiene measures. Hand sanitizers are located throughout our campus and students are encouraged to use them. Our infirmary is open 24/7 and students are asked to report to the infirmary with any illness. The health and safety of all cadets under the Academy's care remains our primary concern, and every effort continues to ensure their well-being.
