How Financial Aid works at FUMA

The purpose of FUMA's Tuition Assistance Program is to help Cadet families afford the enrollment experience. Over the past several years the Academy has seen a substantial increase not only in the number of financial aid applications submitted, but also in the quantity of tuition assistance grants offered to our Cadets. The 2008-2009 academic session broke all previous records, and it appears that the upcoming 2009-2010 school year set yet another standard. So how does the process work? It all begins with an application for tuition assistance. I recommend that you apply online directly from our website- just follow the Admissions tab at the top of our homepage and click on "Apply Online for Tuition Assistance". You will be taken to the website of FACTS Tuition Management, which is the organization that we use to receive and store the electronic applications. FYI, we also use FACTS to manage our Student Accounts Receivable. It is not necessary to have applied for Admission to the Academy prior to submitting a financial aid application. Once an application is submitted, our office will be able to evaluate the information that you provided in the data fields. However it is still necessary for you to submit your tax forms (usually your 1040 and W2 from the prior year) to FACTS. Following FACTS receipt of your tax forms, your application will become "verified", and it is at this point that an award may be offered if need is identified. Last year the average award exceeded $10,000 per recipient. If your son is accepted, we want him here. So please don't hesitate to pick up the phone and call me. It can get quite busy in the summer months, as our enrollment processes are at their peak from May through August, so please be patient if we play a little phone tag!
