FROM THE KITCHEN

Friday, February 10, 2012.   As of this writing there have been no new information from the USDA concerning recalls or watches.   As I am informed I will keep everyone informed of any recalls as they occur.

The Ping Pong Tournament which is scheduled for next Friday, Saturday and Sunday had a good registrtion.   We will have enough players to make this year's tournament interesting once again.   There are three levels of play;  beginner, intermediate and Table Tennis Team Members.

The Faculty and Staff have been slow to sign up for the tournament, but we hope for a last minute rush on Saturday.

The Dining Service is working on new menu ideas, including  posting menus on the web site, which will include nutrition information on main entree items at first;  then on the entire menu offering.   We hope to have some of this ready for the Spring of this year.   We will have the entire menu ready for Fall of 2012 school year.

If any one has any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at mcilnayl@fuma.org.

Watch the blog for a chance to send in family recipes!

Marching toward Spring

I took advantage of the Winter Leave Weekend to finally hang curtains in Careby Hall, and do some shopping in Richmond. We will soon begin entertaining, and needed a few more items to get everything just right. I snuck in a side trip to a local bicycle shop, so I can cross-train on the local trails this Spring.

Early this week we revised the 2012-2013 draft schedule, adding this important weekend back into the schedule...it allows cadets and staff a break during what the Service Academies refer to as the "dark ages" of winter. We will finalize the 2012-2013 schedule this week, and publish it next week.

Last Friday we hosted Court Spotts and Ed Coleman, both from the Colonial Shooting Academy, a new indoor shooting range in Henrico County. They toured our indoor range and offered expertise to continue our strong safety record. Their help will also allow us to maintain excellence within our league. Ed and Court are like many generous Virginians who recognize the value of our school, and appreciate the creativity we must show to "make ends meet." We look forward to the growing partnership, and also anticipate safely exposing more young men here to the sports of rifle and pistol.

Early this week I met with the Chairman of our Board of Trustees, Mr. Bill Vakos. Bill is the father of a FUMA graduate, and has been actively involved in the school for decades. We met to prepare for our upcoming board meeting, where the school presents a proposed budget for 2012-2013. We will discuss tuition, salaries, benefits, expenses, revenue, the new barracks, and a number of other important issues. While details like this may not be the most enjoyable parts of making a school work, it is certainly vital to sustaining our ability to educate, develop, and inspire young men in this college preparatory, Christian, residential environment.
