Blue Devils Beat the Bulldogs in a Double Header
The Blue Devils swept a double header to open their season at home beating the Bulldogs of Norfolk Academy 14-4 in the first game and 10-4 in the second. In both games the Blue Devils gave up runs in the first inning but came back to regain the lead in their half of the inning. Sean Sweeney (3 walks and 5 strikeouts) upped his record to 3-0 by winning the first game and Jay Billingsley picked up the win in the second game. Sweeney was supported by Mark Royer (3 for 3, 2 doubles, 4 RBI), Ryan Nolan (4 for 4, 2RBI), Cole Herod (2 for 3), John Malley (2 for 3, double) and Andrew Stout (2 for 3 and scored 3 runs).
The Blue Devils defense stood tall behind Sweeney and Billingsley as they only committed one error during game one. Jay Billingsley (1 walk and 1 strikeout) started the second game and went 3 innings before being replaced by Andrew Stout in the fourth inning and then Ron Berscak in the fifth. Josh Brown (2 for 3, homerun, 3 RBI), Ryan Nolan (2 for 2) and Mark Royer (2 for 2) had outstanding trips to the plate during the second game. Again the defense played well helping the Blue Devils pick up their second win of the day.
