United States Marines Visit FUMA
On Monday, November 5th a number of Marines and sailors from North Carolina visited the campus of Fork Union Military Academy. These young soldiers were conducting a training mission as they travelled through Central Virginia. Three very large helicopters landed on the parade/football field at FUMA. These Marines are part of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and their job is to serve as a sea-based quick-reaction force ready to respond to a crisis.
The Marines gave various demonstrations including Martial Arts. Cadets and the community were able to take tours of the helicopters and had a chance to ask questions of the troops. Many of the Marines have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Photos are posted on the FUMA Photo Gallery.
