Public Forum Debaters Win Third Place
On Saturday, October 6, 2007 the Debate Team traveled to Madison County High School to compete in the first tournament of the school year.
Jonathan Blair and Jake Hargrove competed in Student Congress. They wrote, submitted and then delivered speeches for and against bills and resolutions in the areas of Social and Political Reform Policies for the New Iraq, Federal Financial Aid Reform for Secondary Education, Government Funding for Alternative Fuels, Rebuilding the Gulf Region Two Years Later: Government or Private Sector Responsibility, and The Economy and the Housing Market. Both cadets were among the eight students who were nominated either by the Parliamentarian, the Scorers or their fellow Congress members to be ranked for the awarding of trophies.
Cadet Justin Gootee travelled with the team and observed Public Forum Debate and Lincoln-Douglas Debate. He also served as a timekeeper for our judges, LTC Hitchcock and LTC Ransone.
Alex Lee and Rob Rich competed in Public Forum Debate. They were required to debate both the pro and the con sides of the resolution: That the United States should encourage the implementation of a soft partition of Iraq. Alex and Rob competed in three rounds of debate and were awarded third place trophies for their performance.
Alex and Rob were also named State Qualifiers and will have the opportunity to compete in the State Finals tournament in March.
