Varsity Soccer Wins Against Trinity
Trinity came in with a well balanced squad, moving the ball nicely. They were looking to move the ball outside, stretching our defense, then cross back to the middle, while runners flooded the off ball side . We did a nice job of keeping our back line intact a squeezing the field as a unit. R.Hart, M.Jewell, and A. Wells, did a nice job of transitioning the ball quickly from our middle third of the field into the attacking third.
FUMA forward W.J. Lin drew a tough assignment and was triple marked throughout most of the match. His dogged play up top created space for the midfielders to exploit. Midway through the first half this paid off when M. Jewell hit a gap in Trinity's line and sent a long shot over their GK's head giving us a half time lead 1-0.
Through out the second half Trinity pressed the attack continually flooding the back post with 3-4 attackers. Again the back line and mids were up to the challenge and repeatedly turned away Trinity's attack. Our second score came form an excellent effort from M. Jewell, who worked his way through Trinity's right side and neatly tucked the ball into the back of the net. Congratulations to GK. D. George for recording his first clean sheet this season.
Congratulations to the team on an excellent effort on both sides of the ball. I also want to thank all the parents, faculty, and students who supported us during the match. A special thanks goes to the FUMA Pipe Band who provided us with the sounds of the bagpipes as we went into the match.
God Bless & Take Care,
Coach Wood
