Soccer This Week
This was to say the least an interesting week for the team. The result of the Collegiate match was disappointing Collegiate 4 FUMA 2. We started flat and Collegiate came out hard and hit us quick for two goals. We never really got off of our heels through out the match. The good point is we refused to roll over, although the effort was at times disjointed we played all the way through the last whistle. Our two scores came off the boot of M. Jewell.
The team had only one day before facing Randolph Macon. Going into the match my concerns were lack of rest and team mentality. The boys responded well putting the loss behind them, and playing through tired legs, they stepped up and defeated Randolph Macon 2-1. Scores came from H.Kim with an assist from J. Hawksford. The second goal came from a tired and battered M.Jewell. My compliments to the team. To say the least this match was physical. The team kept their composure, played through the adversities on the field and defeated a tenacious opponent.
The last bit of good soccer news is that as of the latest VIAA poll FUMA has broken into the top 20 independent teams ranked in the state. Well done to the team!
Our next match is Tuesday at Hargrave Military Academy. The support so far has been great and I thank everyone for coming out to watch our cadets play - your support makes a difference.
